Sodek Named Sole Finalist for Flatonia Superintendent Job

Flatonia didn’t have to look far to find its new superintendent.

Longtime Flatonia administrator and current interim superintendent Chris Sodek was named the sole finalist for the job at a special meeting held Thursday by the school’s board of trustees.

“I am excited about the position and I am extremely thankful to the Board of Trustees for their faith in me,” Sodek said. “We are very fortunate to have outstanding teachers, staff, administrators, and students at Flatonia ISD, along with tremendous community support. Flatonia ISD has a rich tradition of success and by us all working together, we can continue to keep the district moving in the right direction.”

Sodek was named the interim superintendent earlier this year after Andy Reddock left Flatonia to become superintendent at Sinton ISD.

A native of Fayetteville, Sodek came to Flatonia from Mumford ISD eight years ago, initially hired as an assistant principal and basketball coach. Since that time Sodek has been rising up the ranks at Flatonia ISD as Principal, Director of Operations and Assistant Superintendent. All the while he has continued to coach boys basketball as well, and will continue to do so as superintendent.

“My main focus is education,” Sodek said. “Flatonia creates a multitude of opportunities for kids to be successful and we want to find something every kid can excel at.”

Chris’ wife Leigh Ann is a teacher at Flatonia ISD and they have two children, Duke, a sophomore, and Summer, an eighth grader.

Among the challenges he must tackle at Flatonia ISD include, “something the whole state is going through, students’ learning loss from the COVID year and how to make up for that, and also teacher retention is a big thing. How do we keep good teachers and recruit new ones.”
