Skateboarder Strikes Car
A skateboarder who couldn’t stop in time crashed into a Chevy Suburban on Pearl Street in La Grange on Friday, April 8. The skateboarder, 18-yearold Daniel Wayne Gurley of La Grange, suffered minor injuries.
The crash happened around 4:55 p.m. According to a report from La Grange Police, Gurley was riding his skateboard south in the 600 block of N. Franklin St. Gurley told officers after the wreck that he was heading downhill too fast and couldn’t stop. The report said Gurley skated past the stop sign at the Pearl St. intersection and struck a silver 2011 Chevy Suburban heading east on Pearl St.
The driver of the Suburban, 57-year-old Jeffery Cook of La Grange, told officers that he was watching another vehicle on North Franklin that was facing north at the intersection. Cook told officers he didn’t see Gurley until right before impact. Gurley crashed into the front left corner of the Suburban.
The Suburban suffered minor damage, according to the crash report. Fayette County EMS transported Gurley to St. Mark’s Hospital for treatment.
