The Columbus, TX Pride organization’s “Don’t Be A Drag” event in Schulenburg attracted a big crowd of supporters and opponents.

The event took place inside Sengelmann Hall Saturday night, Oct. 12. Organizers said more than 120 guests attended the show, which featured performances by Muffy Blake Vanderbilt, Keymiyah Dupree and Miss Gay America 2024 Dessie Love Blake.

The ticketed, private event was limited to guests ages 18 and up.

A group of approximately 30 protesters set up in Railroad Park across North Main St. from Sengelmann Hall. They held signs that read, “Drag Shows? Not in THIS small town!”

Organizers of the Don’t Be A Drag event thanked the group Veterans for Equality and the Schulenburg Police Department for their assistance.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said both the event and the protest were “completely peaceful.”
