Sheriff’s Office Warns of Fake Fine Scams

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports that an unknown subject is spoofing the Sheriff’s Office phone number and advising people they have outstanding fines with the department.

On Tuesday, Sept. 3., an elderly man attempted to pay $4,750 to the subject at HEB for his “fines.” Thankfully HEB caught this matter and a La Grange Police Officer was called to the scene. The man was advised that this a scam.

Please note that calling persons to advise of fees for fines is not a normal practice at the Sheriff’s Office and they will never notify anyone via phone for such matters.
