Sheriff Warns of Scams

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek is reporting that the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is once again receiving several scam reports that someone is calling citizens of Fayette County and claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office and stating that the person has warrants for their arrest and they are collecting fees over the phone to get rid of the warrants.

These calls appear to come from the Sheriff Office’s actual phone number. These scammers have the ability to clone phone numbers. They are using actual names of Fayette County Sheriff’s Office employees as well.

Please note this is not a normal practice and Sheriff’s Office will not notify anyone via phone about warrants or to collect any fees.

If you ever have any doubt about a phone call you receive, hang up and dial us directly at (979) 968-5856 or come to the Sheriff’s Office in person.

Never give money, gift cards, or any other monetary funds or bank account information over the telephone.
