Sheriff Reports on January Activity
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of January.
Sgt. Ben Wilson responded to a residence in the West Point area in reference to a suspicious death. After further investigation, it was determined the death was a suicide.
Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of property damage that occurred at a residence in the Round Top area. Naumann also handled a call in which a horse trailer was sold without permission. After further investigation, the issue was deemed to be civil and no crime had occurred.
Sgt. Angela Lala took a report of a scam which occurred on Facebook Messenger. The scam involved the application CashApp. The victim was promised a large sum of money if they put up a smaller amount of money upfront.
Sgt. Ryan Meagher stopped out with a stranded motorist in the Engle Area on Hwy. 90. A check of the vehicle’s license plate showed the car to be stolen out of San Antonio. Meagher attempted to place the subject in custody at which point the subject resisted. After a brief struggle, Meagher was able to place the subject into custody. Meagher also located methamphetamine in the possession of the subject. The subject was arrested.
Deputy Terry Guentert responded to a structure fire in the Muldoon area. The cause of the fire is believed to be a heat lamp that the homeowner was using to keep her dog warm. Guentert also responded to the Flatonia area in reference to a UTV accident.
Deputy A.J. Gonzales conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near mile marker 668. One passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of a felony amount of marijuana. Another passenger was to be in possession of identifying information. Both subjects were arrested. Gonzales also conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near the 667 mile marker. The driver, who was found to be in possession of marijuana and fentanyl, was arrested.
Deputy Herman Olvera was dispatched to a residence near Schulenburg in reference to a verbal disturbance. After investigation, assault charges were filed on both subjects.
Deputy Austin Moore stopped a vehicle on FM 609 near Flatonia. The driver was found to be in possession of cocaine, hydrocodone and a firearm. The driver was arrested. Moore also stopped another vehicle on FM 609 near Flatonia. The vehicle had fictitious license plates and through further investigation, it was discovered the vehicle was stolen out of Odessa. The driver was arrested.
Deputy James Ulbig responded to a grass fire in the Round Top area. Approximately 60 round bales were burned. A property owner was notified of the damages. The cause of the fire is unknown. Deputy Michael Krenek responded to a vehicle fire in the La Grange area. A report was taken and the cause of the fire was determined accidental. Krenek also took a report of illegal dumping that occurred in the Smithville area. A large amount of tires were dumped on the side of the roadway. Case is under investigation.
Deputy Jared Michalec conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a convenience store in La Grange. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana, THC and promethazine and arrested. Michalec also stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 71 near the West Point area. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana and was charged.
Deputy Seth Nagel conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 71 near Ellinger. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested. The driver also had two outstanding warrants.
Deputy Orlando Buitron conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 71 near Ellinger. The driver was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested. Buitron also responded to an assault that involved a motor vehicle accident which occurred in the Round Top area. Responding deputies were given a vehicle description of the suspect’s vehicle. While en-route, Sgt. Meagher located a vehicle matching the description provided by the victim. Meagher stopped the vehicle and detained both occupants. Buitron met with the victim and obtained sworn statements detailing an assault. Both occupants of the vehicle Meagher stopped were arrested. The driver was wanted for a probation violation out of a neighboring county and the passenger was arrested for family violence from the assault that just occurred.
Deputy Lee Phillips was dispatched to a vehicle fire on Hwy. 90 near Engle. There were no injuries and the vehicle was a total loss. A report was made. Phillips was also dispatched to a residence near Fayetteville in reference to a death. The death was ruled to be that of natural causes due to terminal illness.
Deputy Dustin Kieschnick conducted a traffic stop on FM 955 close to Hwy. 71. During the stop the driver exited the vehicle and would not comply with orders. Kieschnick attempted to detain the subject and an altercation ensued. Kieshnick deployed his taser on the subject and was able to subdue him until backup arrived. A search of the vehicle yielded a handgun, rifle and approximately two kilos of methamphetamine. The driver was arrested. Kieshnick also stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 71 near La Grange. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. Kieshnick located a handgun that was reported stolen out of Midland County, Texas. Kieshnick also located approximately one kilo of methamphetamine in the bed of the truck. The driver was arrested.
Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 38 individuals for the month of January and transported five individuals to the Texas Department of Corrections Facilities to begin serving time for crimes committed in Fayette County.
