Sheriff Korenek Reports on May Activity
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of May 2024.
Sgt. Lala took a report of Illegal Dumping in a private dumpster at a business in the Ellinger area. After further investigation, the party responsible was identified and the issue was resolved. Lala also investigated a fraud case where a victim sent money to a person impersonating a police officer. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Sgt. Ryan Meagher responded to a convenience store in the Ellinger area in reference to a child custody dispute. After further investigation, one female was arrested for public intoxication and endangering a child. Meagher responded to a disturbance in the Plum area. It was learned a female broke into her ex-husband’s residence while he was sleeping and attacked him. The female was arrested for assault causeing bodily injury to a family or household. Meagher took a report of a runaway juvenile from the Cistern area. Meagher located the male juvenile several hours later at which point the boy expressed suicidal thoughts. The juvenile was evaluated and transported to a mental health facility to receive treatment.
Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to a residence just outside of Schulenburg in reference to a child custody matter. Claims of abuse were made by a child and CPS was contacted. The case remains under investigation at this time.
Deputy Cody Williams took a report of estray cattle which were located in the area of Stryk road near Flatonia. Williams stopped a vehicle in the Engle area. After further investigation, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was found to be in possession of US currency which is believed to be that of criminal proceeds. The driver was arrested for money laundering.
Deputy Herman Olvera took a report of a burglary which occurred in the Flatonia area. A report was taken and the case remains under investigation at this time.
Deputy Duane Meagher took a report of a welfare concern in the Muldoon area. Entry into the house was made to confirm the subject was not inside in need of help. After further investigation, it was learned the subject was transported to a nearby hospital and was okay. Meagher also took a report of damage to property which occurred in the Flatonia, area. The case remains active at this time.
Deputy Jason Fowler took a report of a burglary which occurred in the La Grange area. Serial numbers of the stolen items were obtained and entered into the database as stolen. One of the items was located and a suspect was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. Fowler responded to a residence near La Grange in reference to a subject with mental issues in distress. The subject was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where they were evaluated. The subject was later transported to a mental health facility to receive treatment.
Deputy Jared Michalec responded to a call of a trailer in the roadway. After further investigation, the trailer was discovered to be stolen out of La Grange. The trailer was recovered and the case was handed over to La Grange PD due to the theft occurring in their jurisdiction. Michalec took a report of damaged property in the Round Top area in which a vehicle struck a fence and fled the scene. The vehicle and driver were located and agreed to pay for the damages.
Deputy Seth Nagel responded to a structure fire in the West Point area. There were no reported injuries and a report was made. Nagel also took a report of illegal dumping on Country Club Drive. A suspect was located and a citation was issued.
Deputy Wesly Arrison stopped a vehicle near La Grange. After further investigation, the driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Arrison responded to a disturbance in the West Point area. After further investigation, a male subject was arrested for public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia. Arrison stopped a vehicle in La Grange. After further investigation, the driver was arrested and charged with felony DWI.
Deputy Mark Pritchard assisted the Schulenburg Police Department by locating and recovering a stolen vehicle which fled from them during a pursuit. The vehicle was unoccupied.
Deputy Ty Roggenkamp conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Muldoon area. The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that fled the scene from a disturbance call earlier in the night. After further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of three bags containing methamphetamine. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and was later charged with aggravated assault stemming from the disturbance call.
Jail Administrator Holly Smith reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 41 individuals for the month of May. Smith reports that the Jail Staff transported four individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
