Sheriff Keith Korenek Reports on July Activity
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of July 2024.
Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of a theft which occurred at a place of business in Fayetteville. The store owner discovered a handheld product scanner was taken. Social media aided in identifying the suspect who was captured by the store’s video surveillance. The property was able to be returned and the disposition of the case is still pending at this time.
Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the Plum Post Office. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was found to have a felony warrant out of Fayette County. The driver was arrested. Meagher also responded to a report of a subject slumped over the wheel on Davis Rd. near Old Lockhart Rd. Meagher arrived and found the subject extremely intoxicated and asleep with the vehicle turned off. The subject was arrested for Public Intoxication.
Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of stolen road signs which were taken between St. John and Hwy. 90. There is a Crime Stoppers reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
Deputy Cody Williams worked a two vehicle accident which occurred near the 500 block of Scotts School Rd. There were no reported injuries and a crash report was completed. Deputy Williams responded to an address in the Flatonia area in reference to a suicidal subject. After further investigation it was learned the subject attempted suicide prior to William’s arrival but was unsuccessful. The male was later transported to a Mental Health Facility to receive treatment.
Deputy Duane Meagher responded to a vehicle fire on I-10. There were no reported injuries and a report was completed for insurance purposes. Meagher responded to a report of a trailer in the middle of the road on Pietsch-Kappler Rd. After further investigation the trailer was found to be stolen. The trailer was impounded.
Deputy Jason Fowler along with Deputy Duane Meagher responded to a drowning in the Carmine area. The case remains under investigation at this time. Fowler responded to an attempted burglary of a vehicle. Deputies responded and after further investigation discovered there were no subjects nearby as well as no loss of property.
Deputy Jared Michalec took a report of damage to property. Michalec was able to locate the subject responsible for the damage. The subject settled the issue with the property owner civilly amongst themselves and no charges were filed. Michalec also took a report of two subjects who claimed to be selling authentic items but were actually selling knock off merchandise. A report was completed and the incident remains under investigation.
Deputy Seth Nagel took a report of abandoned property. Nagel located personal information including a phone number inside of the belongings. Contact was made with the owner who advised her vehicle was broken into during the recent hurricane in Houston. The items were collected and then returned to the owner. Nagel responded to a vehicle fire on US-290 in Ledbetter, in which a Penske truck caught fire from the rear axle. Ledbetter and Carmine Fire Department’s extinguished the fire. The vehicle was a total loss and there were no reported injuries.
Deputy Wesly Arrison responded to a report of a subject in the Winchester area who was having a mental health crisis and was having suicidal thoughts. Arrison met with the subject and deemed him to be a danger to themselves. For the subject’s safety, they were placed into custody under an Emergency Detention Order. The subject was transported to a safe location where they were evaluated by a mental health specialist. The subject was then transported to a behavioral hospital where proper treatment will be given. Arrison also responded to a disturbance on Frances Rd. After further investigation, two persons were arrested and charged with Public Intoxication.
Jail Administrator Holly Smith reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 55 individuals for the month of July. Smith reports that the Jail Staff transported nine individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
