Sheriff Keith Korenek Reports on August Activity
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of August.
Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of a possible scam call in which a person represented themselves as a local bank employee. The person was very persuasive and requested information. The scammer had a caller ID displaying the name of the bank as well. These types of scams are becoming more common. Naumann also responded to an accidental discharge of a firearm. A female subject was struck in the stomach. She was transported to a trauma center in Austin via helicopter. The female is now recovering at home.
Sgt. Angela Lala conducted an investigation into a registered sex offender who failed to register with our agency after being released from prison. A warrant has been issued for the individual.
Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Flatonia area. As a result of the stop, several narcotics including marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine were located inside of the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail without incident.
Deputy Herman Olvera responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on FM 956. After further investigation, the vehicle, which was occupied, was found to be stolen out of San Antonio. The vehicle was recovered by Olvera.
Deputy Duane Meagher responded to a residence just outside of La Grange in reference to a domestic disturbance involving an individual who suffers from mental illness. Mental health services were contacted and the subject was transported to an Austin area behavioral hospital for treatment.
Meagher responded to a welfare concern in which the reporting party stated her son had not returned home from going to get something to eat. Meagher was able to locate the son’s vehicle which had been involved in an apparent accident near the 10000 block of FM 2145. The driver who was identified as the caller’s son was deceased as a result of the accident. Meagher took a report of a disturbance which occurred near the Flatonia area. The suspect left prior to Meagher’s arrival. This case was forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office. The suspect is facing assault and trespassing charges.
Deputy Jason Fowler responded to FM 955 near Schumacher Rd. in reference to a welfare check. As a result of the call, one male subject was arrested for public intoxication. Fowler located a vehicle on Gebhard Rd. which was in a creek. The vehicle was found to be stolen and was recovered by Fowler. Fowler was dispatched to a welfare concern. After arrival to the call it was determined a vehicle had been burglarized and damaged. A subject was located shortly after in the nearby area who fit the description of the suspect. The subject was found to have property which was taken from the vehicle on their person. The suspect was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle.
Deputy Wesly Arrison responded to a disturbance just outside of the city limits of Schulenburg. After further investigation, a male subject was arrested for assault causes bodily injury family/household. Arrison investigated a report of a possible protection order violation. Arrison located a vehicle leaving the area which was believed to be driven by the suspect. Arrison conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and confirmed it was the suspect who did in fact violate the protective order. The suspect also had numerous felony warrants out of Fayette County. The suspect was arrested without incident.
Deputy Mark Pritchard responded to South Kirtley Rd. in reference to an intoxicated female causing a disturbance. The female subject was arrested without incident for Public Intoxication. Pritchard also responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on SH 237 near Ullrich Rd. After further investigation, one male subject was arrested for Public Intoxication.
Deputy Ty Roggenkamp stopped to check on a vehicle on SH 95 near Cistern which was parked on the shoulder. Roggenkamp observed numerous open containers of alcohol in the vehicle and a female sleeping in the driver seat. After further investigation, the female was arrested for Public Intoxication. Roggenkamp was dispatched to a residence on Waldeck Rd. in reference to a female causing a disturbance. Roggenkamp located the female who was asleep and showed numerous signs of intoxication. The female was arrested for public intoxication.
Jail Administrator Holly Smith reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 48 individuals for the month of August. Smith reports that the Jail Staff transported 7 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
