Several Juneteenth Events Planned Here This Month
Events Planned for June 19-21 by LG Juneteenth Committee
An annual Juneteenth celebration will once again be presented by the La Grange Juneteenth Committee. Scheduled events will take place over three days from Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21. The weekend’s celebrations of love and unity in the community will kick off with an evening of gospel singing on Friday, June 19 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Randolph Community Center (653 Pearl Street, La Grange). A variety of gospel groups will perform. All are welcome to attend. Saturday, June 20, will begin with a parade in La Grange. All local businesses, community organizations or individuals are invited to join us in this joyful celebration by entering a float or other entry. Line up for the parade will be on Jackson Street (next to HEB at the corner of Jackson St and Hwy 71 Business) and will begin at 9 a.m. with the parade anticipated to begin at 10:30 a.m. Please join us in this community building event.
Following the parade we will be gathering at the Randolph Center (653 E Pearl St) to enjoy a free (or goodwill donation) meal together. Games will include a domino tournament and special activities for the kids. There will of course be prizes! It’s going to be a grand time so please join us as we honor this important historical date by celebrating unity in our community while also building for a brighter tomorrow. The weekend’s Juneteenth celebrations will wrap up on Sunday, June 21st with a community worship service to be held at the Randolph Center in La Grange at 2:30 p.m. Reverend Austin Jones of the St. James Missionary Baptist Church will present the message.
