Doors swing open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. with a delicious meal service beginning at 11:15 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early for a refreshing beverage before indulging in the tasty offerings. As membership grows, we’re enhancing services by introducing a sign-up binder for upcoming events, volunteer assistance with home and yard tasks, and dessert sign-up sheets, all available at the various locations. Additionally, we’re working to streamline beverage distribution, so keep an eye out for updates.

Membership at Senior Connections is free, and a goodwill donation box is available for those who wish to contribute to meal costs. As we approach the end of September and the welcoming embrace of October, we have exciting events lined up.

Join on Monday, Sept. 29 in Schulenburg at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Wolters Park. From 9:30 - 11 a.m. we offer members a chance to update their vaccinations with Hometown Wellness. This is a timely opportunity, given the recent uptick in COVID-19 and flu cases. Do not forget to bring your insurance prescription card and photo ID.

The daily meal, generously provided by Connie Koopmann—our mayor and board member—features buttered potatoes, our signature house salad with seasonal fruit, and a delightful dessert crafted by our members. Following lunch, join for a Lunch and Learn session with Sally Garrett from the Texas AgriLife Extension Agency in La Grange, who will discuss healthy beverage choices. We’ll wrap up the day with bingo at 12:30 p.m. hosted by a representative from Farmers Insurance. We welcome them to our family of bingo callers.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, we’ll take a brief pause in programming.

On Oct. 1 in Schulenburg, we are gifted with another delicious meal prepared by Connie Koopmann. This time, it features roast beef and gravy, volunteer prepared buttered potatoes, and our house salad. This will be followed by more bingo fun led by Fayette Savings Bank.

Oct. 3 marks the launch of a new month of art workshops at our Artful Friday event at 1206 Lyons Ave. Diana Chaffin will host a session on found object sculptures and memory/shadow boxes, while Stephanie Shroyer will lead mosaic classe in a second classroom. Diana’s class is full, but there’s still room in Stephanie’s class to sign up before the month long workshop begins, call (979) 7433227 to register.
