The week will start off in Weimar on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of St. Charles and College St. After a morning of coffee, social time and games, seniors will enjoy a meal of hamburger steak, potatoes and veggies by Amanda Kridel, and dessert brought by Darlene Williams.

Debra Shimek with the Wesley Nurse Program will drop by for the Lunch and Learn program to share what their service provides. They address the mind, body and spirit in a holistic approach to health. A key component of the work Wesley Nurses undertake in their communities is providing care coordination for uninsured patients, health education, health promotion and facilitation of resources.

Anne Frye with First Texas Home Health will call the bingo game.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4 Senior Connections will be in Schulenburg. Join us in Wolters Park at the center for a morning of fun and games. Join in on a variety of different domino games from Mexican Train, 42, or Straight Dominoes. We have a variety of other games like Sequence, Connect 4, Yahtzee, and a cabinet full of others. One group of gals comes in every Wednesday to play Tarock, a card game invented in northern Italy around 1420, and the first game to use the concept of trumps. It was also the first game with the innovation of trick-taking and the idea of bidding. The cards are beautiful and have images of Greek and Roman gods, they are works of art.

Sept. 5 will be a special day. A group of fourteen will go on an adventure to the big city of Austin to step into the captivating world of the artist Claude Monet as their masterpieces come to life in front of our eyes.

This month our Artful Friday schedule will look a little different, meeting at the Arts For Rural Texas classroom space at 1206 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg. Artist Instructor Georgia Pohl will join for the first two Fridays to finish up a painting of a magnolia wreath. Martha Beckmann will finish off the last two Fridays with fall inspired crafts.
