Senior Connections Welcomes Back Members
After a joyous holiday season filled with family and friends, Senior Connections is thrilled to announce the resumption of its regular schedule, providing active seniors from Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia with a variety of engaging activities, camaraderie, delicious meals, and enriching programs.
On Monday, Jan. 6, doors at the Schulenburg Center will open at 9 a.m. for a morning of coffee, dominoes, and conversation. Enjoy a homemade meal with us featuring lasagna, garlic bread, and our famous house salad, followed by a delightful dessert prepared by one of our talented members. Today marks the debut of our Members Spotlight during our Lunch and Learn program, where one of our own will share their stories on the first Monday of every month. Stephanie Shroyer will be our inaugural speaker, breaking the ice and sharing her experiences and insights as we learn more ways in which we are connected. The fun continues with an exciting bingo game hosted by Jeffrey and Care Inn Nursing Center of La Grange to wrap up the day.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, we will shift to Weimar’s First United Methodist Church for our program, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their domino game and enjoy a warm cup of coffee with friends before indulging in a catered light lunch from Tilly’s in Schulenburg, featuring sandwiches, tomato soup, and a dessert provided by a member. Our Lunch and Learn speaker for the day will be Pat Chester from the Weimar Heritage Society Museum, so learn about some town history. Another thrilling bingo session led by Takeshia Hodge from Columbus Oaks Nursing Home.
On Wednesday, Jan. 8 in Schulenburg, attendees can look forward to a fun-filled day with a catered meal from Oakridge Smokehouse featuring their renowned fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and broccoli salad. We’re excited to announce that representatives from Fayette Savings Bank will be calling the bingo game in the afternoon.
On Friday, Jan. 10, Artful Fridays resume at our Arts for Rural Texas classroom space at 1206 South Lyons Avenue in Schulenburg. Classes start at 10 a.m. and conclude at noon, with a delicious lunch afterward. Students will learn innovative techniques for creating acrylic skins, collages, and painting techniques with artist Sue Pape in one classroom. At the same time, participants wrap up ongoing projects and explore gelli printing techniques with Stephanie Shroyer in another classroom.
As we embark on this exciting week, we encourage seniors 55 and up to join us. Membership at Senior Connections is free, as are our restaurant quality meals. With the colder months upon us, it is more important than ever to stay connected with friends and family and to keep loneliness at bay.
