Senior Connections A Vibrant Hub for Fun, Food, Friendship
Senior Connections is buzzing with excitement as May unfolds, welcoming seniors aged 55 and up to join its lively community. With free membership and delightful meals, there’s no better place for active seniors to gather and enjoy camaraderie.
Kick off the month with a festive celebration of Cinco de Mayo on May 5 at the Schulenberg Center, 1111 Bohlmann Ave. Doors open at 9 a.m., inviting Domino players to find their tables and start the games. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal at 11:30.
After the meal, a spotlight on cherished members, Kerry Van, will share his fascinating life story, journey to Columbus, and how he connected with Senior Connections. Following this, the much-anticipated bingo game will commence hosted by Elizabeth Fox from Freyburg Hall.
On Tuesday, May 6, shift locations to the First United Methodist Church in Weimar. Doors open at 9 a.m., with many early birds securing their domino tables. This Tuesday, we’re excited to host Tiffany from the Weimar Chamber of Commerce, who will discuss the upcoming Gedenke Festival, its German history, and its transformation into the beloved event it is today.
We return to Schulenberg on Wednesday, May 7, continuing great food and fun tradition. Bingo session will be generously sponsored by Fayette Savings Bank, providing exciting prizes and fun callers for our eager players.
On Friday, May 9, we introduce a new artistic venture. We welcome Jamie Janda, Miss Irene Janda’s granddaughter, as the May artist/ instructor. Participants will embark on a creative journey to develop their personal art journals, incorporating journaling, painting, drawing, and collage techniques. These classes are held at 1206 S. Lyons St. in Schulenburg at Arts for Rural Texas. In the second classroom at Arts, Stephanie Shroyer will be introducing GELLI printing. This is a fun way to create prints and papers that can be used as art or added to collage. Enjoy a nice meal after classes to catch up with each other.
May 9 is the last day of the Ageless Artistry show that is hanging in the gallery on the other side of the building at 1203 Kessler Ave.
