Senior Connections Schedule
As the sun shines over Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia, an exciting week awaits the active seniors of these vibrant Texas communities at Senior Connections. This gathering place, dedicated to fostering camaraderie and engagement among seniors, is gearing up for a funfilled schedule of events from May 19-23.
Visit on May 19 in Schulenburg, where the doors of Senior Connections will open at 9 a.m. for coffee, games, and friendly conversation. Participants are encouraged to come early to enjoy the social atmosphere until about 11:20 a.m. when the real treat begins: a delicious home-cooked meal. This particular day is special as it marks the much-anticipated cookie roundup, where members donate sweet treats to share with bingo players and community supporters. Please drop them off in the morning before the lunch rush.
Lunch menu features an enchilada casserole prepared by Connie Koopman Catering, the mayor, and a beloved board member. Accompanied by volunteer-prepared pinto beans, rice, and a dessert contributed by a member, this meal promises to tantalize taste buds and warm hearts.
Adding to the day’s excitement is a Lunch-and-Learn session with Craig Moreau from the Round Top Family Library, who will present on the fascinating topic of Generationalism. His previous presentation in Flatonia captivated attendees. It highlighted how different historical events shape generations and how their distinctly different behaviors impact community involvement and the workforce.

The day would not be complete without a lively bingo game led by Victoria Booth from Shady Oaks in Moulton.
On May 20, the action shifts to the First United Methodist Church in Weimar, where domino enthusiasts arrive early to secure their tables. The camaraderie is palpable as the coffee brews and the competitive spirit ignites from 9 - 11:20 a.m. Our mouth-watering meal will include Amanda’s homemade lasagna, garlic bread, and famous house salad, with dessert contributions from members showcasing their baking talents—or shopping talents by simply picking up treats from the store.
The Lunch-and-Learn speaker is Dr. Van Houten, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Weimar. His holistic approach to health care views the body as an interconnected system, emphasizing how various parts interact. This presentation is sure to provide valuable insights for attendees.
As always, bingo will be on the agenda, with Takeshia Hodge from Columbus Oaks calling the numbers.
On Wednesday, May 21, Senior Connections returns to Schulenburg, where excitement is guaranteed. Members will indulge in a catered meal from Oakridge Smokehouse featuring their famous fried chicken and butter potatoes. Volunteers will prepare a fresh salad, and members’ contributions for desserts will ensure a delightful finish to the meal.
Heather Nicole Dove from Post-Acute Medical Specialties in Luling will be present to lead the bingo game, promising another afternoon of fun until 2 p.m.
The week concludes on May 23 with Artful Fridays at the Arts for Rural Texas art center at 1206 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg.
