Senior Connections Plans Thanksgiving Celebration
Our Thanksgiving celebration will take place on Nov. 20 at the KC Hall in Schulenburg. All of our members are welcome to attend from Schulenburg, Weimer and Flatonia campuses.
We will start the day at 9 a.m. and will have all of our regular games available for those to play along with coffee. At 11 a.m. the children from St. Rose school will come over and entertain us before our holiday meal. We will have one hour of bingo after we eat. The center will be closed for the last week of November. There will be no programming at any of our locations that week. If you plan to attend, please let us know, so we know how much food to prepare. There is also a signup sheet for side dishes and desserts, for members to bring if you’re interested in helping out.
In December, our Christmas party will be the same design and will take place on Dec. 18. Super Dave Hollas will perform after our meal for an hour.
You can find us in Schulenburg on Monday, Nov. 4 The dominoes will be waiting for you at 9 a.m. along with a hot cup of coffee and friendly faces. Connie Koopman Catering is preparing chicken fried steak and gravy for lunch, our Senior Connections volunteers will make potatoes and our famous spinach salad. Members will bring the dessert for us to share.
The Lunch and Learn program that follows the meal will be interesting. Elizabeth Fox will share the history of Freyburg Hall, and the new life that it is living now. I met her when she did a presentation for the Lions Club of Schulenburg and it is a program you do not want to miss.
We wrap the day up with Bingo and Jeffery Reich-Hale from Care Inn Nursing facility in La Grange as our guest caller.
Tuesday Nov. 5, you can join us in Weimar at First United Methodist Church. Officer Josh Jones with Weimar Police Department will join us for a presentation and talk about ways to stay safe. Takeshia with The Oaks Nursing Home in Columbus will be our bingo caller.
Come to Arts For Rural Texas at 1206 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg if you feel like getting creative on Fridays. Artful Fridays takes place from 10 a.m. - noon with a meal served afterwards and great fellowship. Claire Lewis is our artist instructor for the month of November and she’ll be sharing her slow stitch. Many people will be working on, a quilt for an auction item for our big fundraiser coming up at New Year’s. Holiday crafts are available to create in the second classroom.
