Senior Connections Plans Busy February Ahead
A vibrant gathering of 22 Senior Connections members united from Schulenburg, Weimar and Flatonia campuses, at the KC Hall in Hallettsville, on a rainy Sunday, Jan. 26. Despite the threatening clouds, the concert featuring Molly B, a renowned polka musician known for her energetic performances and mastery of multiple instruments, was a big hit. The members’ smiles and laughter reflect their enthusiasm for the music and the joy of being together, making new friends, and creating a heartwarming scene of community and celebration.
At Senior Connections, based in the heart of Schulenburg, active seniors gather each morning to enjoy a warm cup of coffee, play games, and connect with friends. This welcoming activity center offers a hearty home cooked meal daily, followed by engaging afternoon activities, including the ever-popular bingo game.
Upcoming events for the Week of Feb. 3 are as follows: On Monday, Feb. 3 in Schulenburg, join for a delicious menu featuring lasagna, garlic bread, our famous spinach salad, and a delightful dessert by one of our members. This week, we’re introducing a new feature instead of our usual Lunch and Learn speaker: a Member Spotlight. Carolyn Moore will share her captivating story with us, followed by a bingo game led by Jeffery from Care in La Grange.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, we’ll gather at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar for a comforting meal of meatloaf, buttered potatoes, and spinach salad, with a homebaked dessert. In celebration of Valentine’s month, our Lunch and Learn will focus on heart matters, featuring Dr. Ducichela, who will discuss heart health. Anne Frye from Texas Home Health will join us in calling the bingo game, adding warmth to our gathering.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5 in Schulenburg, our homecooked meal will include a hearty shepherd’s pie with garlic bread, salad, and dessert. Fayette Savings will bring the bingo game to keep the fun going that afternoon.
Fridays in February will be extra special as the talented Martha Beckman will join as the guest art instructor. She will guide us through weekly seasonal crafts, exploring themes such as Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, Easter, and spring activities. Classes will occur at the Arts for Rural Texas building at 1206 S. Lyons Ave. from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Additional art projects will be available in another classroom for those looking for something different.
Art classes offer numerous benefits for cognitive function in older adults. Overall, art classes not only foster creativity and self-expression but also serve as a valuable tool for maintaining and enhancing cognitive function in older adults. The Art Center at 1206 S. Lyons is handicap accessible. And we enjoy a delicious meal following the class.
