Senior Connections Plans for a Busy December

Senior Connections, a Senior Citizen Activity Center, offers a variety of engaging activities and delicious meals to brighten the days of local seniors. Our schedule is always filled with camaraderie, creativity, and community spirit, from festive conversations and games to creative art projects.

The week ahead kicks off on Monday, Dec. 2, in Schulenburg. After a morning busy with games and coffee, we will enjoy a comforting meal of broccoli and cheese soup provided by Connie Koopman Catering, ham and cheese sliders, and a fresh, healthy salad. Following the meal, Stephanie Shroyer will lead a heartfelt discussion with the members about their cherished holiday traditions and ways to honor loved ones who are no longer with us. The day ends on a high note with a lively bingo game called by Jeffrey from Care Inn Nursing Home.

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the festivities move to Weimar, where seniors gather at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday, Dec. 4, brings everyone back to Schulenburg for a hearty lunch of beef tips from Connie Koopman Catering, rice, salad, and a dessert provided by a thoughtful member.

Fayette Savings Bank will send a representative to join us for our bingo game. On Wednesdays, we always have a full house.

The week wraps up with a creative flair on Friday, Dec. 6, at Arts for Rural Texas. In one classroom, Claire Lewis leads seniors in finishing their embroidered echo-printed quilt. The senior art class will donate the quilt to the center’s New Year’s Eve fundraiser auction. In another classroom, Stephanie Shroyer introduces seniors to the art of gelli printing while they craft handmade Christmas cards.

The center expressed gratitude for the volunteers, its members, and the community support that makes these programs possible. “We’re so fortunate to have such a caring and creative community,” said a Senior Connections spokesperson. “Our members bring joy and energy to every activity, and we’re grateful for the businesses and volunteers who support us.”
