Senior Connections Plans for Busy April
A lively and engaging week is planned at Senior Connections. It’s terrific to see such diverse activities catering to the interests and well-being of the seniors in Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia.
Beginning Monday, April 7, doors open at 9 a.m. filled with dominoes, card games, and coffee. It sounds like a perfect way to kick off the day. The homemade chicken pot pie, garlic bread, our house salad, and a member-baked dessert, all created by our staff, volunteers, and members, promise a delightful meal everyone can enjoy together.
The double booking for the lunch and learn program adds an exciting twist. Hearing Cynthia Meyer share her life story will surely inspire and connect everyone. Diana Mikesky will then provide updates about upcoming events from the Schulenberg Chamber of Commerce. Learning about the painted churches and local events like the Sausagefest and 90 on 90 will be interesting.
On April 8 at Flatonia Methodist Church, introducing an exercise group is a fantastic initiative. Chair exercises can be a great way to encourage movement and health among seniors, and it’s terrific to see this focus on fitness. If you want to join the fun, arrive by 9:30 a.m. The lasagna, garlic bread, and house salad sounds equally delicious. Craig Moreau’s discussion on generationalism is bound to spark some curiosity and thoughtful conversations.
Returning to Schulenburg on April 9, the fried chicken from Oak Ridge Smokehouse will surely be a hit. Buttered potatoes, salad, and dessert will accompany it. With Chyla from Essential Nursing and Rehab joining for bingo, it’s bound to be a fun-filled afternoon.
As the week progresses, the Artful Friday class led by Susan Grooms offers a creative outlet for seniors. Each month, we have different teachers. It is essential for those interested and those participating to understand the importance of being present in the first class of the month. There is not enough time per class to complete a piece of art. And so, missing out on the initial instruction and time creating makes it very hard for the teacher and the students to get new people up to speed.
The setup for the “Ageless Artistry” art show adds an exciting creative dimension to the week. Last-minute touches are being made in the gallery for the show, and the excitement builds. It’s wonderful to see the pride on the member’s faces as they see their creations displayed. The reception on April 12 from 3-5 p.m. will feature a variety of crafts to fine art by over 20 members, making it a wonderful celebration of creativity and talent. We invite our artists and community’s family and friends to celebrate with us at 1203 Kessler Ave in Schulenburg. The gallery is two doors south of the KC Hall, where Turtle Wing offices are found. Beverages and sweet and savory small bites will be served.
