Senior Connections Offers Busy Week of Activities

Here’s a look at our busy schedule for the week of July 6-10. If you are 55 years or older, you are welcome to join Senior Connections with a free membership, where the food is fine, the friends are fantastic, and the fun goes on forever. Doors are open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Join Monday, July 6 at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Schulenburg. We will have a busy morning of board games, card games, and puzzles, with camaraderie growing over a hot cup of coffee served by our amazing volunteers. Then we will dive into an enchilada casserole prepared by Koopmann catering at 11:20 a.m. It will be paired with beans and rice, of course. Members will bring desserts, so if you would like to get on the schedule to bring a dessert to share, call the center. At 12 p.m., we will have a “get to know your neighbor” time where members can visit without the interruption of competitive games.And speaking of competitive games, at 12:30 p.m. Brenda McMahon with New Century Hospice will come in and call the bingo game.

Join us at First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Saint Charles St. in Weimar, on July 7. Today’s menu includes barbecue wings, paired with coleslaw, mac and cheese, and a dessert. Members will have the opportunity to meet and get to know Mayor Carlton Tucker during the lunch and learn program at 12 p.m. Habitat for Humanity will drop by to talk about their programs for seniors and Veterans. At 12:30 p.m., Alyssa from First Texas Home Health will join us for the bingo game.

We are back in Schulenburg on July 8. The day’s meal will be served a little earlier to accommodate the larger number of attendees, so arrive early to get your drink and find a seat as we move into announcements at 11:10 a.m. The menu will feature something new and different for our members. Chicken-fried pork will be on the menu from Koopmann catering, and it will be served with gravy, buttered noodles, and our famous house salad. Desserts will be brought by members. We go straight into Bingo at 12 p.m. and Chyla with Wellsential Health in Hallettsville will be joining us for the game.

Artful Friday, temporarily located at the Senior Connections Center in Schulenburg, continues July 10. From 10 a.m.-noon, registered members will dive into two new course offerings. Bonny Karstedt will join our teaching team and present painting with wool/needle felting, and Claire Lewis will share watercolor techniques. A light meal will be served after the classes are complete by our amazing volunteer, Brenda Ray. Members are welcome to bring projects they need to finish to our open studio time from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

We are completing artwork for our upcoming Ageless Artistry art show, which will open in September. We will begin receiving artwork from any of our members inAugust, on Fridays from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Arts for Rural Texas classroom space at 1206 S. Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg.
