Senior Connections Looks Ahead to Busy Week
This week the Senior Connections Activity Center promises to be filled with engaging activities, delicious meals, and enriching experiences for seniors in Schulenburg, Flatonia, and Weimar. With a variety of events planned, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Hours are the same at all campuses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Monday, Jan. 20, the week kicks off in Schulenburg, where members are greeted with a hot cup of coffee or cocoa and a breakfast treat. After a morning of fun and games, members will indulge in a hearty shepherd’s pie with garlic bread, accompanied by our special spinach and fruit salad for lunch at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon features a “Lunch and Learn” session with Cindy Meredith from The Herb Cottage, who will share her latest insights on health and wellness. Cindy is a regular around the center, it will be nice to see what she has been up to lately. Following the talk, Elizabeth Marrs from Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Moulton will host a lively bingo game at 12:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Jan. 21, we meet at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar, and after a morning of more fun and games, we will serve a delicious chicken pot pie for lunch, paired with garlic bread, salad, and dessert. The “Lunch and Learn” will feature talented author Betsy Wagner from Columbus, who will discuss her new book on Texas history, illustrated by our very own Sue Pape. The book is actually a collection of poems. This inspirational talk is sure to captivate all attendees. Bingo returns at 12:30 p.m. with Takeshia Hodge from Columbus Oaks Nursing Center calling the game two times in a row. Will we see some familiar faces from the nursing center as well?
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, members in Schulenburg are in for a treat on with a catered meal from Oakridge Smokehouse, featuring barbecue chicken, potato salad, mixed vegetables, and a memberprovided dessert. After lunch, Joshua Lovejoy from Crown Hospice will lead the bingo game, bringing fun and laughter to the afternoon.
Mark your calendars for Friday, Jan. 24, when our art classes will take place at the Arts for Rural Texas building at 1206 South Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg from 10 a.m. - noon. Sue Pape will guide students through creative techniques, while Tory Farley will assist others in glazing decorative squares for their homes. Following the classes, members will gather for a communal meal to share their creations.
Finally, on Sunday, Jan. 26, seniors will embark on an outing to KC Hall in Hallettsville to enjoy a performance by Molly B. While tickets are sold out, interested members can join the waitlist in case of cancellations. If you are signed up and find you cannot attend, please let us know so another can take your place.
