Senior Connections A Hub of Friendship, Fun, and Adventure For Active Seniors

The room was decorated with plush seating, tropical plants, and fragrant aromatherapy, creating an oasis of relaxation. Thanks to Donna Ellis and her business, Loosen Up Massage, and all the dedicated volunteers, this event embodies a nurturing community spirit, providing a rejuvenating experience for all attendees. The smiles on Annette and Martha’s faces showcase the joy and camaraderie of the day.
Senior Connections has become a beloved gathering spot for active seniors from Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia. It offers a warm atmosphere where friendships blossom over coffee, games of dominoes and cards, and engaging puzzles. With a diverse weekly schedule filled with delightful activities, it’s the perfect place for seniors to socialize and enjoy life.
As we approach the week of March 10-14, we have a fantastic lineup of events that promise to keep our members entertained and engaged.
Monday, March 10, join at the Schulenburg location, where the doors will open at 9 a.m. for coffee, conversation, and games. The home-cooked meal will feature chicken and sausage gumbo accompanied by garlic bread, garden salad, and a dessert from one of our beloved members.
This Monday also brings our popular Lunch and Learn program, featuring Dr. Andre from Andre Eye and Optical. He will share insights about his new clinic and connection to our community. Following the presentation, Sandy Anderson from True Care Living in Columbus will join us for a lively bingo game. It’s always a joy to see Sandy’s smiling face or whichever outstanding staff member joins us.
Join on Tuesday, March 11 at Flatonia Methodist Church, with doors opening again at 9 a.m. The inviting Newman fellowship hall, filled with natural light, will host another day filled with fellowship and a delicious home-cooked meal of beef ragu with garlic bread, salad, and dessert. Greg from the Flatonia Train Museum will present during our Lunch and Learn Program, sharing details about this fascinating local treasure. Don’t forget, there is an exciting trip to the museum, including lunch at Darlin’s Diner and a movie at the Lyric Theater on March 20. Schuber transportation will be provided from our other locations if needed. Space on the bus is limited to 12 people, so consider carpooling. Following Greg’s presentation, Joshua Lovejoy from Crown Hospice will join for bingo, bringing joy and laughter to our day.
Back in Schulenburg on Wednesday, March 12, we are thrilled to announce that barbecue chicken is on the menu. Catered by Oak Ridge Smokehouse, this meal will be served with squash casserole, roll, potato salad, and another delightful dessert from one of our members. After lunch, Chyla Pedjuvsky, from Wellsential Nursing and Rehab in Hallettsville, will lead the bingo game, with one of our dedicated volunteers finishing the day with more bingo fun.
On Friday, March 15, join for Artful Friday at Arts for Rural Texas from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. for a calligraphy class by Claire Lewis to help us refine our penmanship into art. We will also prepare artwork made in previous classes for our upcoming art show, “Ageless Artistry,” on April 12 at 1206 Kessler Rd. The reception will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and the show will remain on display for a month, allowing plenty of time for everyone to come and enjoy the creativity of our members. All members are encouraged to participate, so please get in touch with Stephanie Shroyer if you’re interested in showcasing your artwork.
The Cookie Roundup is on Monday, March 17, consider baking some cookies to share with the community. In the morning, drop them off at the Schulenburg Center.
In addition to all these wonderful activities, we’re excited to announce a two-night trip to Waco in April. Members will have the opportunity to vote on which destinations to visit while we’re there. This trip promises a fantastic adventure, get in touch with the center for more information.
