Monday, Oct. 21 you’ll find Senior Connections in Schulenburg at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Wolters Park, next to the Boys and Girls Club. Thadious Polasek with Schulenburg Public Library will be our Lunch and Learn speaker. He will tell us about all the library has to offer and share options for traditional books for those people with vision challenges. Babe Mares with Shady Oak Nursing Home in Shiner and Moulton will join us for bingo following his presentation.

On Tuesday, Oct 22, we will meet in Flatonia for the day. Flatonia Methodist is so kind to open its doors for us in Newman Hall, with all its glorious windows.

Our Lunch and Learn speaker will be Dr. Roger Cagle from Tejas Clinic in La Grange. He will discuss preventable medicine and the services you can receive at their clinic. Amanda Castaneda with Flatonia National Bank will join us for our bingo game.

Wednesday Oct. 23, we are back in Schulenburg, and Schoebels in Columbus will provide the meal for us. Enjoy barbecue chicken, buttered potatoes, and squash casserole with deserts brought by Cherry Wilson and Julie Hill. We are so grateful to our members for bringing deserts to share.

Deanie Crim will be rockin’ the house for bingo after lunch. She is with Schulenburg Family Fitness, and she always packs her positive energy with her. We have a few outstanding members who jump in to finish out calling the afternoon of bingo. Sharon Rodriguez, Rusty Beckmann, Kitra Ruiz, and Carolyn Moore are my heroes for helping with this.

Artful Friday at Arts For Rural Texas is where the creative juices flow from 10 a.m. - noon. We enjoy a meal following the class. Painting in acrylic is offered in one room with Sue Pape, a talented local artist. In the other room, you can create crafts like holiday projects and jewelry making, or bring your knitting along to hang with us. Next month Claire Lewis will return to share slow stitching embroidery. Many students have been working on embellishing eco printed fabric squares to make a beautiful quilt for an auction item for our New Years Eve Ball. If you would like to participate in this project, please come.

Thanks to the support from our community, we will continue to provide meaningful programming for the seniors at our Schulenburg, Flatonia, and Weimar Locations. Senior Connections is a gathering place for active seniors 55 plus. Our mission is simple: to enhance the quality of life for the members we serve. Our weekly programs address the unique challenges seniors in our community face by promoting healthy aging through social interaction, mental stimulation, and nutritious meals.

Join us at any of our locations. Membership is free, and you’re sure to have an enjoyable time. Contact Stephanie Shroyer, at (979) 702-1246 for more information.
