Senior Connections Expands into Flatonia Next Week
Next week starts out in Schulenburg at Senior Connections on Monday, Aug. 12. Tater tot casserole, sausage, mixed vegetables, and desert is on the menu for the day. The Lunch and Learn Speaker will be Deborah Bradley, the Director of Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange. This will tie-in well with the art class for the month being taught by Claire Lewis.
The Texas Quilt Museum, formed in 2011, has so much to offer its visitors. Currently they have three different exhibits on display. A library can be found in the historic building just off the square that also has a fabulous mural that looks out upon a history-based garden nestled behind a decorative fence.
Tuesday, Aug. 13 will be memorable. This is the first day to share our meal-based program to the community of Flatonia in Newman Hall, the fellowship hall of the Flatonia Methodist Church at 403 E. North Main St. Drop in anytime from 9-11:15 a.m. for coffee, conversations, and a variety of games to keep your brain sharp. Announcements will be at 11:20 a.m., followed by a hearty meal of home-made meatloaf, potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad and desert. The Flatonia Czilispiel Queen and her court will help serve lunch. Following the meal, a special guest for the first Lunch and Learn program is Mayor Travis Seale. He wil share information about the city. Joshua Love Joy with Crown Hospice of Victoria will be the bingo caller.
Interested in volunteering to help serve, call bingo or present for the Lunch and Learn program? Contact Stephanie Shroyer. Senior Connections will return to Flatonia on the fourth Tuesday of the month, Aug. 27. Find Senior Connections in Flatonia each second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
Membership is free at all locations, and you may attend any program in any location. Meals are free, however a donation box is always available to anyone wishing to donate.
On Wednesday, Aug. 14 in Schulenburg brings more meatloaf. So if you didn’t get enough the day before, come back for more. Amanda Kridel has a wonderful recipe. Pairing with it you will find twice baked potatoes, a salad and desert.
Erica with Halletsville Nursing and Rehabilitation will be in attendance. Last week, a group from their center joined to celebrate a wonderful new freezer they donated to the senior center, and she returns again as the guest bingo caller.
The August adventure will take seniors to Shiner and the Shiner Brewery. On Saturday, Aug. 17 members will meet at the center at 2:45 p.m. so that the carpool and Schuber bus can leave at 3 p.m. Seniors will enjoy a barbecue meal (self pay) from 3:45-4:30 p.m. and then enjoy music by Darrel Appelt from 4:30-6:30 p.m. You may recognize the name from local radio KNRG as the DJ. He is a busy man and really gets around entertaining crowds with his music in his “spare” time. The group is scheduled to leave there to get to the center in Schulenburg by 7:15 p.m.
You must be a member of any of our three campuses to attend (one simple form that you can fill out that day) and you must be signed up for the trip. A sign up sheet is available at the Schulenburg campus. Call (979) 743-3227 to get your name on the list.
If you wish to take a tour of the brewery, plan to make your own arrangements in advance through their website, at your expense. The Schuber van only holds 13 people and the list already has 20 names on it. So please consider carpooling with others on the list.
Senior Connections appreciates the amazing community for supporting its mission to enhance the lives of the senior population in Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca counties. Providing a safe happy place for seniors to gather to share a meal with friends, play some games and win some prizes playing bingo is a valuable gift. If you know of anyone that could benefit from this, encourage them to join.
