June birthdays were celebrated with Brenda Ray, Joseph Collins, and Clara Christ, who were there for the photo with the cake baked by our secret baker.

Senior Connections has its central campus in Schulenburg with two satellite locates in Weimar and Flatonia. Senior Connections is very excited to announce that we will soon add another satellite location in La Grange. Keep an eye out for the details on that big news.

On any program day, members find old friends and make new friends while gathered around game tables in the morning, enjoy a nutritious, home-cooked meal midday, attend educational programs on Mondays and Tuesdays, and play bingo every day.

Every month we indulge in an adventure. July’s adventure will bring us to Fayetteville on July 12 as we return to the Fayetteville Community Center for the Second Sunday Polka Day starring the Red Ravens. We will share a meal at Joe’s place before the show and have an opportunity to visit the Arts for Rural Texas Art Gallery, which is right next door.

Arts for Rural Texas is our amazing partner for our Artful Friday program, and we are so grateful to them for providing these high-quality art classes for our seniors in our communities. If you’re interested in joining us on this carpool adventure to Fayetteville, contact the center at (979) 7433227.

Another exciting event in July is our Summertime Indoor Picnic and Ice Cream Social, to be held on July 29 at the KC Hall in Schulenburg. The doors will be open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and we will have everybody’s favorite games to play in the morning; hamburgers and summer side dishes for lunch; and ice cream floats to enjoy, with music by Vic Rodriguez in the afternoon till 2 p.m. Once again, contact the center to add your name to the list so we can prepare accordingly.

The schedule at all of our locations is the same: 9 a.m. 2 p.m. On Mondays and Tuesdays, lunch is served at 11:30, with lunch-and-learn programs afterward, followed by bingo; on Wednesdays, we go straight into bingo after lunch. We also line up at 11:20 for the meal on Wednesdays.

Here’s what’s on the agen-da for the week of June 29 through July 3: On Monday June 29 in Schulenburg, lasagna from Amanda Kridel is on the menu along with our house salad, garlic bread, and desserts brought by our members. The lunch-and-learn program will feature members of the Greater Fayette Community Foundation, who will share the services they provide. They will also be calling the bingo game that afternoon.

On June 30, we have no programs. It’s the fifth Tuesday, and nothing is on the schedule.

On Wednesday, July 1, join us in Schulenburg. Today’s lunch is a real treat and is sure to pack the house, so get here early to get a drink and a good seat. We will have fried fish, hush puppies, coleslaw, and mac and cheese from Oakridge Smokehouse, and our members will bring desserts. Kelli from Crown Hospice will bring the bingo.

We will not have Artful Fridays on July 3 as we celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July.

Next week, we will start a new month of classes with watercolors by Claire Lewis and needle-felting/painting with Wool by Bonnie Karstedt. You must register in advance for all classes by calling the center at (979) 743-3227.

Senior Connections is collecting costume and junk jewelry for one of our August Artful Friday classes, so if you have a drawer or jewelry box full of it, we would love to create art with it.

We are also calling for art submissions for our upcoming Ageless Artistry Showcase in September. We will begin collecting art from any of our members; you do not have to participate in our classes to be a part of this event. Art can be dropped off on Fridays in August at the Arts for Rural Texas classroom space at 1206 Lyons Ave. from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Call me, Stephanie Shroyer, at (979) 702-1246 for more information. All artwork must be framed and ready to hang.
