Senior Connections Ageless Art Show Saturday
The Senior Activity Center, known as Senior Connections, is buzzing with excitement as it gears up for a week filled with engaging activities and a unique event that promises to be a highlight for the community. Located at 1111 Bohlmann Ave., Senior Connections is a vibrant gathering place for active seniors from Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia.
Mark your calendars for April 12, when Senior Connections will host the “Ageless Artistry Art Show” from 3 - 5 p.m. in Jack’s Gallery at 1203 Kessler Ave. in Schulenburg. Just south of the KC Hall. This event showcases the talents of 22 of our members and is an opportunity for the community to come together and appreciate their creativity. The gallery is in the same building as the Turtle Wing Office, next to On Point Dance Studio.
As we dive into a busy week, don’t forget to contribute to our “Cookie Round-Up” by baking and donating delicious home-baked sweets on April 14. These treats can be dropped off at Senior Connections to share with the many people who support our cause.
Each day at Senior Connections begins with doors opening at 9 a.m. for a morning filled with games, camaraderie, and coffee. A hearty home-cooked meal is served at 11:30 a.m. and lively bingo games, which are always a crowd favorite, finish the day at 2 p.m.
On April 14, lunch will feature a chicken casserole, our house salad, accompanied by garlic bread, and a dessert lovingly provided by one of our members.
The weekly “Lunch and Learn” program continues on Mondays in Schulenburg following the meal. This week, we are pleased to welcome Margie Farr from Williamsburg House, an assisted living center in Hallettsville. She will discuss their facility and lead a valuable conversation about managing diabetes, a timely refresher for those affected. Additionally, we will have a special bingo caller, Toby Mc-Fadden from the Schulenburg Police Department, stepping in for our regular caller, Sandy Anderson, who is recovering from surgery.
On April 15, the fun continues in Weimar, where members can enjoy a favorite lunch of lasagna, garlic bread, and house salad, followed by a delightful dessert. Misty Strode from the Weimar Public Library will join us for the “Lunch and Learn,” sharing insights about the library’s activities and resources.
Returning to Schulenburg on April 16, we have a treat in store with chicken fried chicken and gravy from community favorite Connie Koopmann. Our volunteers will prepare macaroni and cheese, our house salad, and dessert. After lunch, Heather Nicole Dove from PAM Post-Acute Medical Specialties in Luling will join us to call bingo.
Members enjoy the very last game played in bingo each day. The winner is awarded an extra special prize. A blackout game in bingo, also known as a coverall, is a variation where players aim to mark off all the numbers on their cards. Unlike traditional bingo, where players may only need to complete a specific pattern (like a line or corners), in a blackout game, the objective is to cover every number on the card. The first player to achieve this and call out “Bingo” wins. This format creates a more intense and longer gameplay experience, as players must be more vigilant and strategic in marking off their numbers. And they love it. We would love for you to join us at any of our locations to play. Membership is free, and the food is fine.
Please note that “Artful Fridays” will not be held on April 18 due to the holiday, but we encourage everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend.
