Senior Connections Activity Center Keeps Members Engaged with a Busy Schedule
As March bids farewell, we hope to say goodbye to the gusty winds that have swept through our Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia communities. For those passionate about gardening, this season brings a flurry of activity as vegetable gardens come to life, with plants and seeds planted and herbs and perennials trimmed to prepare for new growth.
At the Senior Connections Activity Center, our doors swing open at 9 a.m., welcoming members to enjoy games like Dominoes, Tarrok cards, Sequence, and various other card games. It’s a perfect opportunity to sip coffee and engage in lively conversations with friends. The games typically wind down around 11:15 a.m., leading us to share prayer concerns, stand for the pledge, and bless our meal before lining up for a delicious home-cooked lunch at 11:30 a.m.
The center’s afternoons are dedicated to the beloved bingo game, which runs until 2 p.m. Some days, we also feature our valuable Lunch and Learn programs.
For instance, on March 24, the Schulenburg location will serve tater tot casserole, a favorite among many, and will be catered by Connie Koopman, one of our beloved board members and mayor of Schulenburg. Accompanied by garlic bread, our house salad, and a member-made dessert, it promises to be a delightful meal. This Lunch and Learn presentation will feature Jennifer Mohring from Fayette Savings Bank, discussing critical topics surrounding bank fraud and scam protection techniques. Jennifer is also on our board.
On March 25, we’ll move to Flatonia, where we will gather at the Flatonia Methodist Church in Newman Hall. The menu will include chicken fajitas, pinto beans, rice, and a dessert. During this Lunch and Learn session, Donna Ellis from Loosen Up Massage will discuss the benefits of massage therapy. Many members enjoyed her relaxing chair massage at our February spa day.
We will have a new face to call bingo. Heather Nichole Dove from PAM (Post Acute Medical Specialties) in Luling will introduce our members to her facility in our area.
On March 26, we’ll return to Schulenburg for another fun-filled day featuringAmanda Kridel’s famous meatloaf, potato casserole, house salad, and dessert. Deanie Crim and her energetic team from Schulenburg Family Fitness will lead the bingo session, promising an exciting atmosphere.
Artful Friday on March 28 at Arts for Rural Texas will wrap up Claire Lewis’s calligraphy class from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Afterward, members can enjoy a meal together while Stephanie Shroyer receives entries and frames artwork for our upcoming art show on April 12 at Jack’s Gallery on Kessler Ave., from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is open to the community and invites family and friends to celebrate our creatives.
