Senior Citizens Hold Fall Meeting, Plan Upcoming Events
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center, Inc. met on Thursday, Nov. 14, for their Fall Meeting/Luncheon at the Randolph Recreation Center. Sixty-three members and several guests were in attendance. President Phil Oestreich opened the meeting with a welcome. Board member, Larry Jackson, led the group in prayer, and Board member Janet Moerbe led the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Secretary Helen Oestreich read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved as read. Treasurer Marilyn Strmiska gave her report which was filed for audit. Board member Doris Lidiak awarded cash door prizes to 10 lucky members. Board member Liz Tannler gave a report on the Games Day which is held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month; however, none will be held in December, but resuming Jan. 9. Board member Janet Rangel gave a report on the upcoming trip to the Unity Theatre in Brenham on Sunday, December 8 to see the Christmas comedy play “Fruitcakes!”
Phil Oestreich then introduced the guest speaker, Dana Platt, Community Engagement Director for the Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) who had a presentation on the new CARTS NOW services provided for Fayette County and La Grange.
On-demand, point-topoint ride services are now provided within the city limits of La Grange. Free fares are provided for seniors 60 and older and their personal care attendants.
