Senior Citizens Annual Meeting, Lunch is April 3

You don’t have to be “old” to be a “senior citizen” these days, but in an age where isolation is widely recognized as a serious social problem, La Grange’s Senior Citizen Activity Center is a welcome opportunity.

The group’s annual Membership Enrollment Meeting will be held Thursday, April 3, at the Randolph Recreation Center and anyone age 50 or older is welcome to join and attend.

Phil Oestreich, president of the Activity Center organization, says it’s not just an opportunity for lunch, but more importantly, a chance to learn more about La Grange and fellow citizens.

The annual meeting begins with registration from 9:30-10:30 a.m. that Thursday, when various non-profits will have information booths available.

“Be sure to register by 10:30 to be eligible for door prizes,” he adds.

The meeting itself begins at 11 a.m. The program will be on the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange. Guest speaker will be John Bartos, a La Grange native who left the community for a career but has now returned and is actively engaged with the Czech center.

A chicken fried steak meal will be served at 11:30 a.m.

“Cost of the meal is only $10, which is a real bargain,” Oestreich said. “But if you’re a member, it’s only $5. Since annual membership dues are only $10, this means that for only $15, you can be a Senior Citizens member for the entire year and have a meal on Thursday too.”

Randolph Recreation Center is located at 653 E. Pearl St. in La Grange.

All area residents age 50 and above, especially those who are not yet members, are welcome to attend.
