Schulenburg Police Report Stolen Whataburger Sign
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of May 8-14.
Alarm
On May 11, Officer Chris Kalina responded to an attic alarm in the 38 block of East Ave. All was secure.
Civil Matter
On May 13, Kalina responded to the 600 block of Upton for a child custody matter.
Reckless Driving
On May 14, Kalina responded to the 100 block of Schultz Ave. in reference to kids driving four-wheelers up and down the street with no helmets. Officer located four-wheelers with adults and no kids. They were advised not to be driving on the city streets.
Suspicious Person/Vehicle
On May 12, Officer Juan Castilleja responded to the 100 block of N. Upton in reference to suspicious person at the church. The individual was identified and he wanted a voucher for food and a hotel.
On May 13, Kalina responded to the 14 block of N. Kessler for a vehicle parked and the individual never comes in. Vehicle had left upon officers’ arrival.
Theft
On May 14, Kalina responded to the 200 block of Heinrich for two individuals holding a sign that appeared to be a Whataburger sign. Officer saw the individual throw the sign in the ditch and learned the pair was staying at Holiday Inn and in fact did steal the sign from Whataburger. A weapons search revealed they both had vape pens and were both under age. The sign was returned to Whataburger and the pair was issued warnings for the vapes.
Traffic Stop
On May 8, Officer Frank Parkinson stopped a vehicle at West and Summit and issued citations for each child that did not have their seat belt on. Citation for no drivers’ license and not having proof of insurance was given.
On May 8, Sgt. Tobey McFadden stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of I-10 for license plate not being visible from 50 ft. a warning was issued.
On May 9, Office Byron Powe stopped a driver in the 200 block of W. Summit for improperly displaying a 30-day permit and additional warning for improper registration.
On May 9, Powe stopped a driver in the 700 block of Kessler for expired registration from February 2022. A warning issued.
On May 9, Powe stopped a driver in the 300 block of Kessler for expired registration from May 2021. Powe issued a warning.
On May 9, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of I-10 for speeding going 85 in a 75. A warning issued.
On May 9, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of I-10 for defective headlight. Citation was issued for no drivers’ license.
On May 9, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of I-10 for no license plate light. A warning issued.
On May 9, Powe stopped a vehicle for expired registration (3/22) in the 700-block of N. Kessler. A warning was issued as well as a waning for expired drivers license (1/18/22).
On May 9, Officer Hailee Vincent stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone.
On May 10, Vincent stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Citation was issued for going 40 in a 25 mph zone.
On May 10, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding going 50 in a 35 mph zone. Driver issued a citation.
On May 10, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Summit for defective brake lights (not visible within 500 feet) Citation was issued for expired registration (10/21).
On May 10, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 40 block of N. Kessler for defective brake light. Citation was issued for no insurance (owner admission).
On May 10, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for running a red light. A citation was issued.
On May 10, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in school zone. Driver had two warrants for her arrest out of Cook County. The jail would not accept for being full with 39. Driver received a citation for speeding in a school zone.
On May 11, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for a vehicle speeding. A warning was issued.
On May 11, Parkinson stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Kessler for running the light.
On May 11, Parkinson stopped a vehicle at Summit and Hwy. 77 for not having a license plate light. A warning was issued.
On May 12, Parkinson stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Kessler for an obscured license plate.
On May 12, McFadden stopped a driver for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of Kessler. Citation was issued for going 47 in a 25 mph school zone.
On May 12, Parkinson stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Kessler for driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone.
On May 12, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding. A warning was issued.
Welfare Check
On May 12, Castilleja did a welfare check in the 700 block of Simpson.
Warrant Arrest
On May 9, Kalina arrested subject on an out of county warrant in the 14 block of N. Kessler.
