Schulenburg Police Officers Handle Animal, Traffic Calls
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of July 19-25.
Animal Complaint
On July 19, Officer Hailee Ellis responded to the 1800 block of Klesel Road regarding baby kittens needing to be picked up and taken to the shelter in La Grange.
On July 20, Animal Control Officer Gina Harden received a call from the 100 block of E. Paulus for a dog sleeping in individuals flower beds. Dog was gone upon Harden’s arrival.
On July 23, Harden responded to the 1300 block of Pierce for a dog surrender. Owner had been approved by the animal shelter to surrender them. Dogs were on a legal tie down due to one dog always getting out. Owner had decided to surrender one. Upon loading the one dog, officer noticed the large amount of plastic tubing hanging from dogs’ neck. Upon closer look it was discovered the dog was attached to a chain like collar that was so tight it was embedded in the dogs. Upon looking under bottom side of dogs’ neck officer could see neck folds, the chain collar had been overgrown by the dogs’ neck folds. Animal shelter in La Grange advised to transport directly to the Fayette Vet Clinic.
Criminal Trespass
On July 25, Officer James Whited was dispatched to the 200 block of West regarding a squatter. Owner of property advised they are going to place cameras to see if they can catch the individual.
Civil Matter
On July 25, Whited was dispatched to the 1000 block of Simpson where daughter had locked mother out of the house. Upon arrival officer advised this is a civil matter. Officer advised the mother if she needed a place to stay, he could issue a hotel voucher.
Disturbance
On July 21, Officer MD Krenek was dispatched to the 1000 block of Kessler regarding brothers arguing and one brother refusing to leave. All parties including the grandmother were uncooperative. Units cleared the call without incident.
Reckless Driver
On July 20, Officer Juan Castilleja was dispatched to the 100 block of Hummingbird Avenue in reference to a reckless driver. Complainant advised one of her neighbors was driving recklessly through the neighborhood at high rates of speed and not watching out for the children that were playing. Officer located the driver and they advised they always go under the speed limit but does not agree with children playing in the road. Officer advised the individual he watch out for children playing.
Suspicious Vehicle/Person On July 19, Powe observed a vehicle driving erratically in the 200 block of East Avenue. Officer spoke with driver who displayed bizarre behavior but no signs of intoxication. After conducting a field sobriety test the subject was released.
Traffic Stop
On July 19, Powe stopped a driver in the 800 block of Kessler for expired registration (5-26) Driver received a warning.
On July 19, Powe stopped a driver in the 500 block of Kessler for disregarding turn marks at the intersection. Straight in a turn lane. Driver received citations for disregarding turn marks at intersection and no driver’s license.
On July 24, Castilleja stopped a driver in the 700 block of Kessler for speeding 15 miles over the speed limit. Driver was issued a citation.
Theft
On July 24, Whited responded to the 700 block of South Street where complainant advised a refrigerator had been taken without her consent from her front yard. The individual that took the refrigerator thought he had permission to take it from the complainant’s sister. The individual paid for the refrigerator after a decision was made.
Welfare Check
On July 19, Powe responded to the 100 block of Black Street for a subject claiming she had been kidnapped. Officer is familiar with the reporting party and knows she suffers from dementia. Upon arrival found the subject in the vehicle with her husband and she was in no danger. Daughter was also called, and she arrived at location.
Public Intoxication
On July 19, Officer Byron Powe responded to the 200 block of W. I-10 frontage for a subject passed out outside of a hotel room.
