Schulenburg to Have Mayor’s Race; Smith Files for Open Spot in LG

The deadline to file for a place on the May 3 municipal election ballot was last Friday, Feb. 14. Three contested city elections shaped up following the deadline.

La Grange

The City of La Grange will not have a contested election, but there will be one new council member. Chris Jernigan, the incumbent for Ward 4, did not file for re-election. Derek Smith was the only candidate to file for that seat. The incumbents for the other four offices are all unopposed:

• Mayor - Jan Dockery

• Councilmember Ward 1 Katie Gross

• Councilmember Ward 2 Ken Taylor

• Councilmember Ward 3 Bonnie Busch Schulenburg

The City of Schulenburg will have a contested election for mayor. Incumbent Connie Koopmann will face challenger Mike “5-0” Ohnheiser. Two other Council seats were up for election but only the incumbents filed: • Alderman Place 1 - Greg “Wolf” Thomas

•Alderman Place 2 - Frank Wick III Thomas was set to face a challenger, Jeffery Reich-Hale, but Reich-Hale withdrew his candidacy before the deadline last Friday.

Flatonia

The City of Flatonia will hold an at-large election to fill three seats on the City Council. Six candidates have filed for election:

• Joanye Eversole (incumbent) • Ginny Sears (incumbent)

• Kevin Laney

• Annie Pryor

• Jeff Brazill

• Alex Hernandez The third incumbent on the Flatonia Council, Donna Cockrell, did not file for reelection. Fayetteville

The City of Fayetteville will not have a contested election. Only the incumbents filed for re-election:

• Mayor - Mike Stroup

• Alderman Place 2 - Cade Burkes • Alderman Place 4 - Kelly Brooks

Round Top

The Town of Round Top will hold an at-large election to fill three seats on the Town Council. Four people filed for candidacy:

• Karen Duddlesten (incumbent) • Jeanette Burger (incumbent) • Melody Nagel

• Barry Bone

Carmine

The City of Carmine will not have a contested election. Only the incumbents have filed for candidacy:

• Council Position 1 - Rhonda Meeks

• Council Position 3 - Bobby Sharp

• Council Position 5 - Anita Drydale Ellinger

The City of Ellinger will not hold a contested election, either. The two incumbents are unopposed:

• Mayor - Matt Mikulenka

• Commissioner - Cullen Weishuhn
