Schulenburg Festival Bringing Back Fan Favorite Two-Some
The Schulenburg Festival kicks off next weekend, Aug. 1-4.
Billed as “The National Party of Texas,” the Festival includes four days of live music, two nights of rodeo action, cookoffs, tournaments, class reunions, fun run, parade and much more.
The Thursday night kickoff party will feature live music from ThatDamnBand. Friday night entertainment includes performances by Keith Hickle, Slade Coulter and Josh Ward.
Texas country music legends Roger Creager and Kevin Fowler will team up the headline the Saturday night entertainment this year as “Dos Borachos.” The pair are no strangers to the Festival stage. They’ve performed at the Festival separately and together more than a half-dozen times over the years, most recently in 2022. Also performing Saturday are The Barditch Hippies, Broken Alibi and Texas Unlimited Band.
The Czechaholics will entertain the crowd on Sunday, followed by Texas Unlimited Band to close out the weekend.
Friday and Saturday night, head over to the rodeo arena to watchsomeofthetopcowboys and cowgirls compete in bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling and tie down roping. Slack events will take place on Thursday night with free admission.
Some of the best barbecue and chili cookers in the state will set up in Wolters Park to compete for prizes and bragging rights in events sanctioned by CASI and IBCA. Prizes will also be awarded for beans, Bloody Mary, salsa and an open jackpot cook’s choice.
Alumni from Schulenburg High School and Bishop Forest High traditionally hold their class reunions during the Festival, making the weekend a homecoming of sorts for many people around the state and beyond who grew up in Schulenburg.
The Festival also includes men’s, women’s and co-ed softball tournaments held at the Schulenburg Sports Complex all weekend long. The Festival Golf Classic will take place Friday, Aug. 2, at the Flatonia Golf Course with a tee time at 9 a.m.
A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will talk place in Wolters Park on Saturday, Aug. 3 Tricycle Races and Kiddie Parade will be held on Saturday August 3, under the Wolters Park pavilion on the dance floor starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Fun Run sponsored by Navidad Valley CattleWomen will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3. Registration for the 5K run or one mile walk/run will start at 6 a.m. and close at 7 a.m. The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. with the one mile to follow at 8:30 a.m.
This year’s Festival will include a Kids Zone with inflatables and water slides set up in the old ball field at the southwest corner of Wolters Park. It will be open all four days.
The Festival Arts and Crafts Show will be open in Wolters Park Friday through Sunday.
The Grand Festival Parade will wind through downtown Schulenburg on Sunday starting at 12 a.m. The Parade ends at Wolter Park. This year’s Grand Marshals are the staff of the Schulenburg Sticker newspaper, which will celebrate its 130th year of continuous publication.
Food and drink from various vendors will be available all weekend long in Wolters Park.
