Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets Feb. 7
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Feb. 7 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer and assistant treasurer. Sixteen ladies attended the meeting.
Members were informed that dues for the 2022 year are currently being accepted. Three thank you notes were read by the Assistant Secretary for remembrances received during the previous month and two verbal “thank yous” were also heard.
Under the Spirituality Commission, Chairperson of the Church Commission, Debbie Greene gave a short explanation of the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter and passed around a picture of the chair for everyone to see. She also reported on Feast Days and Lenton activities that will take place during the upcoming month. The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek reported that a new list is being updated for the work sacristy and that ladies who volunteered to assist with the flowers in the Narthax will be contacted as needed. Meetings are on going with Father Brian to finalize Lent preparations and finalizing plans for the Feast of St. Joseph. The flower committee chairperson, Judy Langhamer reported that donations will again be accepted for flowers for Easter and that the order is expected to be reduced from the previous year. Peggy Sulik continues to care for the vestments and altar cloths.
Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha gave her report on the donations to the Clerical Endowment Fund during the previous month. Barbara Schellberg reported on the CEF Enrollments sent by the Altar Society to members who had lost loved ones during the previous months and to one member in honor of a special birthday. A floral cross was also made available to the family of a deceased member. Judy Langhamer informed members that the January Deanery meeting had been cancelled and that the next meeting is still scheduled for April. Anna Boyd thanked everyone who volunteers at Second Chance and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that there were no new members at this time, however one application is pending. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business a report was given on the status of the bakeless bake sale and it was reported that donations will continue to be accepted. A discussion took place on the need to update the bylaws with Earline taking charge of forming a committee to review changes that may be necessary and report back at a future meeting. Karen thanked and recognized those who helped sell candles in honor of Candlemas Day which was Feb. 2. She also thanked and recognized Debbie and Carol for putting together new membership rosters for the 2022 year.
Under new business, President Janda then requested that an audit take place of the books with Trish Pechal volunteering to chair this project. She reported on the dates that the Altar Society will be asked to host the socials after the 9 and 11:30 a.m. Masses and let members know that more information would be coming when the appointed times get closer. The date of the Austin DCCW 2022 was announced. It will be held at the Marriott in Round Rock on May 16-17.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, March 7 beginning at 5:45 p.m.
