Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday March 3, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial reports. Three cards of thanks were read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Fifteen ladies attended the meeting.
The Spirituality Chair Marian Tajchman informed members that March is dedicated to St. Joseph whose feast day is March 19. March also marks the beginning of Lent this year with Ash Wednesday falling on March 5. This begins the time of fasting, prayer and repentance leading up to Easter. The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is a celebrated Christian holiday known as Shrove Tuesday which is a day to enjoy treats prior to the Lenten practice of fasting from certain foods. It is a day to confess one’s sins and prepare for the season of Lent. The Feast of the Annunciation which is celebrated nine months before Christmas falls on March 25. Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek thanked members who volunteered to assist with the cleaning of altar purificators and corporals. She also announced the times available to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday. A brief report was given on the status of the vestments that had been ordered for Father Chris and Deacon Kyle. Judy Langhamer spoke briefly about the flowers on order for Easter. They include Easter Lilies, Kalanchoes and Mums. A notice will go into the bulletin to invite parishioners to make Easter flower donations. Marian also reported that no flowers will be displayed on the altar during the season of Lent as is custom. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the donations made to the Clerical Endowment Fund for the previous month. Emma Proske reported on Get Well cards that had been sent to members. Barbara Schellberg gave her report on CEF enrollments sent to a member for an over 90 birthday and to two members in memory of their deceased loved ones during the month of February. Judy reported that one funeral lunch had been served during the previous month and presented the financial report for the Parish Council of Catholic Women. The dates of March 18 – 24 were announced as volunteer dates for Sacred Heart Parish at Second Chance and members were reminded to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, there are no new members to report. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. The Rural Life Mass will be held August 28 at St. Monica’s in Cameron.
Under unfinished business, the ladies who volunteered to take on the process of cleaning the purificators and corporals were again recognized and thanked by President Janda. Judy Langhamer volunteered to act as the delegate to the upcoming convention for the Deanery to be held at the Embassy Suites in Round Rock onApril 7-8. Her expenses will be paid by the Deanery. Silent auction items can be given to Judy prior to the convention for anyone who wishes to donate items. Karen expressed her thanks to all who celebrated the ordination of Deacon Kyle Janda in any way, including the donation of flowers to the church and the gift presented to Kyle by the Altar Society and to all who attended any of the events surrounding the ordination celebration. Members were reminded that the Bakeless Bake Sale fundraiser for the Society has now begun and members are asked to donate toward this one fundraiser for the year.
Under new business, Karen received confirmation that containers for Holy Water and candles for Holy Saturday are in stock or on order. Volunteers were taken for the positions needed for the Stations of the Cross to be led by the Altar Society members on April 4.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, April 7 beginning at 5:45 p.m.
