Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Nov. 4, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the secretary and assistant treasurer. Two thank you cards were read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Eleven ladies attended the meeting. The Spirituality Report provided by Marian Tajchman reminded us that November marks the end of the liturgical year. This month is dedicated by the church to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Notable November dates include Nov. 9 which is the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, Nov. 21 which commemorates the Presentation of Mary and Nov. 26 when we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. In November, we also celebrate Thanksgiving. We are reminded that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the greatest act of thanksgiving that could possibly be offered to God. In the Catholic Church, every day of the year is “Thanksgiving Day”.
Church Preparation Co-Chair Gracie Fucik had no report but it was noted that the same décor is expected to be displayed for the season of Advent and the Christmas preparations will be discussed by the committee in the near future. Judy reported that she is currently working on the flower list for 2025. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the month of October. Four get-well cards had been sent during the previous month by Emma Proske. Barbara Schellberg reported on the CEF Enrollments for August through October. Judy reported that one funeral lunch had been hosted during the previous month and gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that one new member had been approved by Father Chris since the last meeting. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. The 2025 Rural Life Mass is scheduled to be held in Cameron and the winners of the Rural Life Awards were announced.
Under unfinished business, Judy gave her report on the ECCW meeting held in Ellinger on Oct. 22. Information for the upcoming convention to be hosted by the Waco Deanery can be found on the ADCCW Facebook page. The convention will be held on April 7-8, 2025 in Round Rock. The theme is “Called to an Encounter with Jesus.” Judy also noted that the 2025 dues are now due and that the next meeting of the Brenham/ La Grange Deanery will be held in Fayetteville on January 28, 2025. Following her report, Karen Janda recognized and thanked those members who assisted with the social after Mass hosted by the Altar Society on November 3.
Under new business, Karen noted that all current officers will be presented on the slate of officers for the 2025 year and will be holding their same positions so no appointment of a nominating committee is necessary this year. Doris Lidiak spoke in more detail about the cookies for the homebound project hosted jointly by the Altar Society and CDA members. The event will be held on Dec. 9 this year and all parishioners are welcome to participate. Cookies can be dropped off at the Narthex between 7:30 8:30 a.m. on this day.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
