Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Sept. 9 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the secretary and assistant treasurer. Eight thank you cards were read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Sixteen ladies attended the meeting.

The Spirituality Report was given by Marian Tajchman and included a reflection on some of the Feast Days celebrated in September particularly those honoring Mary. They include the Feast Day of the Nativity of Mary, The Most Holy Name of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mercy. Sept. 14 also celebrates The Exaltation of the Holy Cross and Sept. 29 is the Feast of The Archangels. Marian also reminded members of the Catholicism 101 classes held on Sundays in the Narthex of the Church and the Bible Study classes offered on Thursday evenings also in the Narthex.

Church Preparation Co-Chair Gracie Fucik reported that the Liturgy committee was scheduled to meet with Father Chris at a date to be determined. Marian Tajchman spoke about the need for flowers for First Friday and gave general comments about flower preferences for the altar. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the months of May through August. Emma Proske reported sending three get well cards to members in need. Judy Langhamer reported on the five funeral lunches that had been hosted during the summer months since the previous meeting and also gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Anna Boyd informed members that Sacred Heart volunteers are scheduled at Second Chance from Sept. 1723 and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.

Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that one new member had been approved by Father Brian prior to his departure and that one member application was currently pending approval by Father Chris. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to The Fayette County Record. Karen informed members that The Rural Life Mass had been held on Aug. 20 at St. Mary Church of the Assumption Parish in Taylor.

Under unfinished business members were thanked by Karen Janda for helping with the social hosted by the Altar Society after the Sunday Masses on June 16. Judy Langhammer gave a report on the ECCW meeting held in Brenham on July 23. She informed members that the tentative dates for the 2025 convention will be April 7-8 and will be hosted by the Waco Deanery. The next ECCW meeting will be in Ellinger on Oct. 22.

Under new business, members were informed that the Ladies Altar Society members will be hosting the social in the narthex on Sunday, Nov. 3. It was also announced that the Mass for the living and deceased members of the Altar Society will be on Sunday, Dec. 15. A sign-up sheet was made available for members to volunteer one hour of time to spend in church during First Friday adoration each month.

Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 7 beginning at 5:45 p.m.
