Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, March 7, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer and assistant treasurer. Thirteen ladies attended the meeting.
Two thank you notes were read by the assistant secretary for remembrances received during the previous month.
Under the Spirituality Commission, Karen Janda reported on dates to note including the upcoming Parish mission, participation in Liturgy of the Hours led by Father Brian at various times throughout Lent and the leading of the Stations of the Cross by the Altar Society. Since March is the month of St. Joseph, the Memorare to St Joseph was recited. The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek reported that work continues as scheduled for Lent preparations and upkeep of the altar. She requested help with maintaining the oil levels in the altar candles, as the individual currently taking care of the duty has requested temporary assistance with this responsibility. No report was necessary by the flower committee, however it was noted that flowers will not be ordered for Confirmation since this celebration will be held during Lent and flowers are not displayed on the altar during the Lenten season. Peggy Sulik spoke about the fabrication of two chalice covers requested by Father Brian for two older chalices to ensure that they remain well cared for and available for use at Mass.
Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha gave her report on the donations to the Clerical Endowment Fund during the previous month. Anna Boyd reminded the ladies about the upcoming work schedule for Sacred Heart and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that there were three new members approved by Father Brian. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. Karen Janda gave the location of the Rural Life Mass to be held at Ascension Church in Bastrop with the date and time to be announced at a future date.
Under unfinished business a report was given on the status of the bakeless bake sale. Earline and Carol gave their report on the recommended changes and updates to the bylaws of the Altar Society. All changes were approved by members by unanimous vote. A report was given on the donations collected for candles distributed after the Masses on Feb. 5-6 in honor of Candlemas Day. An audit on the books of the Society had been performed on Feb. 24 with the books found to be in good order. President Janda asked members to consider serving as a delegate to the Austin DCCW 2022 Convention to be held at the Marriott in Round Rock on May 16-17. More information will be coming about whether or not auction items are needed.
Under new business, a discussion was held on the need for candles and holy water containers for Holy Saturday. Earline Trlicek and Gracie Fucik will fulfill orders for these items as needed. Volunteers were requested to serve at the Stations of the Cross services when the Altar Society is in charge of leading the Stations on April 1.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, April 4, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
