RT Family Library to Embark on Historic Expansion
Round Top Family Library, a cherished community hub in the heart of Fayette County, is embarking on an exciting new chapter with plans to expand its facilities.
Founded in 1999 with the mission to inspire and serve, the library has grown from humble beginnings into a vital resource for families, children, and seniors in Fayette, Austin, Lee, and Washington counties. With the library’s motto, “Why Dream Ordinary?” guiding its mission, it has become a cornerstone of community enrichment.
The expansion is driven by the library’s continued success and a growing demand for its services. The library currently serves more than 7,000 individuals annually, providing a broad array of educational, cultural, and recreational programs. The library’s facilities are now operating at full capacity, prompting the need for additional space and resources to better serve its ever-expanding patronage.
Meeting Growing Demand: The Expansion Plan Round Top Family Library is planning to add 3,600 square feet of space to its existing Main Library building. This new space will allow for expanded operations and will support an array of key upgrades, including:
• Meeting space that will accommodate 75-125 people, providing a venue for events, workshops, and presentations.
• Doubling the size of the children’s, youth, and teen library areas to meet the growing demand for youth programs and education.
• Additional shelving space to house an expanded library collection.
• Accessible bathrooms for disabled patrons, ensuring everyone has equal access to services.
• Free meeting space for non-profit organizations, fostering a stronger sense of community by providing a venue for local groups to gather.
“We’re excited to continue growing alongside our community,” said Round Top Family Library Executive Director Craig Moreau. “This expansion is an essential step in making sure the library remains a place for everyone— whether they’re here for a book, a program, or just a quiet space to learn and connect.”
Infrastructure Improvements
In addition to the expanded space, the project will also include drainage improvements to protect the historic buildings on campus from water damage and to improve the sustainability of the library’s grounds for future generations.
A Vision for the Future
This expansion represents the library’s vision for a vibrant, thriving future—one where the library continues to be an accessible, welcoming space for all members of the community. With the additional space and infrastructure improvements, the library will be better equipped to serve its growing population, strengthen its programs, and build upon its rich legacy.
“We’ve been so fortunate to have the community’s support over the years,” said Pam Langford, Board Member and Chair of the “Honor Serve Build” Capital Campaign. “With our community’s continued support, we’ll be able to provide even more opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection for generations to come.”
To commence the Honor Serve Build Capital Campaign, RTFL recently announced the receipt of a generous donation from The Alan and Ruby Riedel Family Foundation in the amount of $250,000. Amy and John Bone, daughter and son in law of Alan and Ruby Riedel honored RTFL with this significant gift at a recent reception. “We are humbled by the generosity of The Alan and Ruby Riedel Family Foundation and extremely grateful to receive their gift - what an incredible way to kick off our Capital Campaign,” shared Langford.
Call to Action
As the library embarks on this exciting journey, it invites the community to be a part of the future. Support for the expansion project is essential to realizing the library’s vision. Donations, volunteers, and local partnerships will play a key role in making this important project a reality.
