Round Top Lions Club Presents Turkey Trot Donations

The Round Top Lions Club met on July 30 at the Round Top Family Library Annex Building. The meeting was called to order by President Suzanne Ellis.
Mayor of Round Top, Judith Vincent, spoke about how fundamental the Lions Club is in the Round Top community. She also spoke highly of the members and their hard work to make the Turkey Trot possible.
The highlight of the luncheon was the presentation of donations to the various chosen organizations. The recipients of the Turkey Trot monies were each asked to introduce themselves and explain what their organization does. Those organizations receiving donations were: Round Top Family Library; RT-C Education Foundation; CASA for Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties; Camp Shakespeare; Red Door; Waldeck-Nechanitz-Walhalla Show Fund; Round Top Cannoneers; Round Top Rifle Hall; Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Dept.; and Arts for Rural Texas.
The scholarship recipient, Makayla Smith, gave information about her college pursuit and thanked the Lions Club for their support.
After lunch was enjoyed by all, guests were invited to view the solar car built by the RT-C students and meet some of the students.
RT-C ISD
The RT-C Elementary Back-to-School night will be held on Aug. 17 from 5-6 p.m. at the Round Top Elementary. Students may drop off their supplies and visit their classrooms. The RT-C Jr. High and High School Back-to-School night will follow from 6:157:15 p.m. Visit rtcisd.net for more details. The first day of school for all students will be Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Round Top Rifle Hall
The Monday Night Burger Social at the Round Top Rifle Hall will be held Monday, Aug. 17, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with good food, cold drinks, and great company. All are welcome. The Burger Nights are held on the first three Monday evenings of each month.
The 2026 Schutzenfest will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Plan to attend for an evening of traditional German fun.
Magnolia City Brass Band The Magnolia City Brass Band, Houston’s new allprofessional British-style brass ensemble, will bring its powerful and exciting sound to Festival Concert Hall in Round Top on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 3-5 p.m. Under the direction of Houston Symphony Assistant Principal Trumpet Robert Walp, the ensemble features some of the finest brass musicians in the region and delivers performances that inspire audiences of all ages. This concert will feature a variety of great music for brass, by composers such as Claude Debussy, J.S. Bach, John Williams, and more. Known for their energy and distinctive British brass sound, the group says there are only two types of people: those who love them and those who haven’t heard them yet. Round Top Family Library
Round Top Family Library will host a free Security and Self-Defense Seminar on Aug. 29 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. led by instructor David McCall. Participants will learn essential safety tips and techniques covering home security, travel security and self-defense. The self-defense techniques are designed with women in mind but are effective for anyone. The seminar is also recommended for students preparing to head to college. Participants must be age 16 or older, and registration is required.
Round Top Family Library’s new Children’s Wing is now open. The Children’s, Junior Fiction and Young Adult collections have moved into the new space. Renovation of the original library building is now underway. While the main building is temporarily closed, the adult collection and book sale remain available in the classroom attached to the Children’s Wing, where patrons can continue to browse and check out materials. The library appreciates the community’s patience during this transition and looks forward to welcoming visitors as this exciting project continues.

Exercise classes are continuing during the renovation and have been temporarily relocated to theAnnex. Visit Round Top Family Library’s website for the current class schedule, including class days and times, and join a class today.

Hermann Sons Life
The next Hermann Sons Life regular monthly meeting will be held on Aug. 25 at the Round Top Rifle Hall.
American Legion, Round Top The next meeting of the American Legion Quade-Werchan Post #338 and Auxiliary will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, at their facilities located at 1503 N. St. Hwy. 237 in Round Top beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Prior to the meeting, a social hour and catered meal will be held in honor of the Post’s 104th anniversary and to recognize the students from Round Top-Carmine High School who attended the 2026 American Legion Auxiliary Texas Bluebonnet Girls State this summer. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with the catered meal served at 5:45 p.m. Reservations are required by Aug. 27 and can be made through an email to Post Adjutant Bruce Bockhorn at bockhorn7402@hotmail.com, or by calling (979) 451-0624. All post and auxiliary members are requested to bring a dessert of their choice to share.
Post members are reminded that their 2027 annual dues of $40 are now due. Upon submitting payment, they will be receiving the membership cards from the Post Adjutant.
Auxiliary members are reminded that their 2027 annual dues of $31 are now due. Members are also requested to bring supplies for the care packages that will be sent to members of our armed forces.
The October meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, in conjunction with Carmine Chamber of Commerce Night Out. All members are encouraged to attend both monthly meetings to celebrate the history of the post and address operational matters.
All veterans in the Round Top-Carmine, Winedale, Warrenton, Ledbetter, Waldeck, and Rutersville area are encouraged to join Post #338 and share in fellowship with others who have served our nation.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ruth Circle met on the morning of Aug. 6 in the Education Building at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Round Top. The morning began with training from church council member and retired paramedic, Mr. Ronny Beard, on how to use the new defibrillator recently purchased by the church. Refreshments provided by Sedalia Ullrich were then enjoyed by all. Those in attendance were LaVerne Albers, Joys Baird, Sherry Pennington, Kathy Schatte, Jeanette Schoenst, Sedalia Ullrich, Pearlie Wagner, and Julie Wantland. Pastor John David Nedbalek led the bible study lesson, which was titled “An Age of Grace.” He conveyed the message that women in all stages of life can use their unique combinations of experience, time, and energy to provide service to the Lord and His people in every age and stage we experience.
