The Round Top Lions Club Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is 27 days away. This is a great way to start your Thanksgiving celebrations, while also helping our sweet community. Each year, the Lion’s Club donates funds to various non-profit organizations; all proceeds benefit the youth in the Round Top community.
Since the first Turkey Trot in 2017, the Lion’s Club has raised over $57,000. In 2023, 273 people walked, ran, or cheered on the participants. The event raised over $11,000 and those proceeds were donated to CASA, The Red Door, Round Top 4-H, Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation, and the Round Top Family Library. In addition, this year, the Lions Club also gave a $2,000 scholarship to a graduate of RT-C who entered into a trade school in the fall.
The 10K begins at 8 a.m., followed by the 1-mile Fun Run at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Registration is live at athleteguild.org. Round Top – Carmine ISD Report cards will be sent home and posted to the Parent Portal on Nov. 7. A FASFA and scholarship meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. This important meeting will cover FAFSA, which begins Dec. 1, and is a graduation requirement, plus discussing scholarships, some changes to this year, and the best way to streamline the process.
Friday, Nov. 15 is an early release with buses running at 12:30 p.m. Students are out for Thanksgiving Break Nov. 25 – 29.
Round Top Wine Fest
The 2024 RoundTopWine Fest is this weekend. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, shops will be serving a variety of wines throughout the day. As you visit each shop, mark your favorites and be entered into the raffle. Tickets for the day of are $65 and include the shuttle service, the signature wine glass, “Explore Round Top” goody bag, a map with all of the stops, and one raffle ticket. Be sure to stop by the registration table at the Town Square before hitting the trail.
Busted Oak Cellars 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off is Saturday, Nov. 2. Special contests will be held for the best chili, beans, salsa, and sangria. An art booth will also be set up. The Art Festival at The Compound is Nov. 15 – 17. This event welcomes artists from across the nation and showcases fine art from various mediums including painting, sculpture, clay, textile, glass, wood, mixed media, photography, jewelry and more. Mayer Cemetery Association The Mayer Cemetery Association will have their annual meeting on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Round Top Real Estate Office, located at 101 N Main Street on the square. Reports will be given on cemetery needs including the mowing and upkeep funds, Mayer Cemetery Association Bylaws revisions, the annual Officer’s election, as well as other items. Festival Hill
The Round Top Film Festival will take place at Festival Hill Friday, Nov. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 10. The weekend will have several events around the area. Tickets can be purchased at festivalhill.org or roundtopfilmfest.org.
Festival Hill is hosting a Theatre Forum on Nov. 15-17. The event will cover how we are influenced by the visual aspects of set designs, costumes, lighting, architecture, as well as how drama manifests in visual art.
A few of the scholars and artists that will be joining in on the event include Valerie Greiner, Felicia Londré, Brad Dalton, Dr. Logan Browning, Tom Foral, and of course, James Dick. A full itinerary of the weekend, as well as ticket information is available at festivalhill. org.
