Richard Schulze Day is Proclaimed in La Grange

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery signed a proclamation Monday honoring Richard Schultze on his retirement as La Grange Municipal Judge. Dockery officially declared the date of Feb. 14, 2022 as “Richard Schultze Day” in La Grange.

Schultze retired at the end of last year after 33 years as the city judge. Schultze’s retirement caps off an illustrious career not only as an attorney. Schultze is also a retired Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army where he served as a Green Beret and paratrooper.

Schultze has also been a member of the La Grange Main Street Committee. He even served as a tour guide once for former Texas Governor and U.S. President George W. Bush.

As a member of First United Methodist Church, Schultze has served on many Kairos Prison Ministry retreats, where he served the spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women, youth and their families.

“On behalf of the entire City Council, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Richard for his exceptional service to our community, our incarcerated seeking God’s word and our citizens of La Grange,” Dockery said. “I wish him much happiness and success as he begins this next chapter in his life.”

The La Grange City Council honored Schultze with a reception before the City Council meeting Monday, Feb. 14. The reception was well-attended by many of Schultze’s friends, family and colleagues.
