First Presbyterian Church has just selected Rev. Gordon Butler as our new minister. Rev. Butler was the Presbyterian minister in Giddings when he first became a minister probably 30 years ago and is excited to be back in this part of Texas Sounds of joy were heard this morning in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of La Grange. After an extensive search by our Pastor Nominating Committee consisting of Clive Halder, Chair, Norma Smith, Cheryl Holt, Pam Hurst, Debby Schovajsa, Nancy Muil, Jeremy Janda and Bobbie Nash, the PNC was thrilled to present to the congregation Rev. Gordon Butler as our selection for our new minister.

Rev. Butler is a native Texan who grew up in Parkway Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi. A Graduate of the University of Texas-Austin and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, he has served four churches (Pasadena, Lafayette, LA., Giddings, and Irving).

Since 2004, he has served in the mental health field, as a director of Psychosocial Rehab/Supported Employment at Bluebonnet Trails, on the staff of their Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center - San Antonio, founder of two ICCD Psychosocial Clubhouses in the Austin area, and now owner of Kairos Recovery, a company that helps people living with disabilities find competitive employment.

He has been married to his childhood sweetheart for 42 years. The couple have three children and six grandchildren. The Butler family has recently purchased property where the entire family will have homes so they can be near each other. The property is approximately ½ way between La Grange and Susan’s work in the Austin area.

Pastor Butler will serve First Presbyterian Church for ¾ time while continuing to work with his company’s mission of providing support to persons living with disabilities as they look for employment.

First Presbyterian Church has been in La Grange since 1846, in it’s current location since 1954 and continues to provide worship to families for generations.

Please feel free to stop by First Presbyterian Church and welcome Pastor Gordon to the “neighborhood.” We would love to have you join us for worship services at 10:30 a.m. Sunday mornings at 205 S. Franklin Street here in La Grange.
