Retired Teachers Meet, Enjoy Ice Cream Social
The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association met Monday, Sept. 9 at the New Life Methodist Church in La Grange, with 15 members in attendance. Members enjoyed an ice cream social with many flavors and toppings.
The business portion of the meeting included a treasurer’s report (Chris Morrison) and an update on the new fiscal year’s budget. The updated Standing Rules of the FCTRTA were presented to members with revisions to be voted upon by all members in November.
Karen Fitch, Legislative Chair, provided voting information for the upcoming election cycle, including the following: Oct. 7 is the last day to register to vote Oct. 21 is the first day of early voting in Fayette County Friday, Oct. 25 is the last day to apply for ballot by mail, and Friday, Nov. 1 is the last day of early voting in person.
An upcoming Field Trip to Swiss Alp Bison Farm in Schulenburg will take place on Oct. 14, with a luncheon at Hattie’s Haus to follow. The next business meeting is Nov. 11, including a Silent Auction to benefit the Retired Teachers Foundation.
While the name implies “teachers only” all retired public-school employees are welcome, including those from other districts.
