Record Shines in State Press Association Contests

The Fayette County Record was honored with a number of awards at the Texas Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest Saturday in Denton.

Competing in the largest circulation category in the state for non-daily newspapers (against papers from Nacogdoches, Lufkin, New Braunfels, San Marcos, and lots more), The Record placed in seven different events.

Judging was done by the Kansas Press Association and was for work done during the 2024 calendar year.

Here’s what the Record won: 

First place, Advertising

Design – for work done by John Castaneda.

Second Place, Column Writing – For work done by Jeff Wick 

Second Place, Special Section – For the 2024 Fall/ Winter Visitors Guide.

Second Place, General Excellence – for entire issues of the newspaper judged as a whole.

Second Place, Online Live Coverage – for La Grange high school football video recaps done by Deacon Wick.

Fourth Place, Feature Photography – For work done by Andy Behlen and Jeff Wick.

Fourth Place, Page Design – for several pages of newspaper work from 2024.
