Dulcimer Classes
The AMEN Food Pantry will be open regular hours on Mondays from 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Also, the pantry will be open Thurs. Jan. 15 from 4:30-6 p.m. to distribute food.
A ten-week, fun-packed course is beginning Jan. 15 and on the following Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church, La Grange (across from H-E-B). Bring your own instrument or borrow one of ours. The class will be led by Music Director Don Kirby. Cost, $150 for the ten-week class. For info, call Cathy at (979) 968-3910.
Legion, Auxiliary
The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the fairgrounds in La Grange. This being the first meeting of the New Year of 2026, Christmas Veterans’ visit reports will be given as well as discussion of other business matters. Members are encouraged to attend. New potential members are invited to attend, and come see what the American Legion and the Auxiliary is all about. A light meal will be served, at 6 p.m. with the regular business meetings to follow.
Senior Citizens Trip
The La Grange Senior Citizens Activity Group has a day trip planned for Sunday, Feb. 15, to see “Dear Jack, Dear Louise,” a heartwarming old-time romantic comedy, at the Unity Theatre in Brenham. All seniors are invited. We will be leaving from the Randolph Rec. Center parking lot at 11:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided by the city van and some carpooling. Lunch (on our own) at Must Be Heaven at 12:15 p.m. The show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, and payment is required prior to the trip. There’s more The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The drop-off bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please have them in a plastic bag or a box so that they are not laying on the ground.
Setting Up for Success on Your Land
The Fayette Prairie Chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas will be hosting a 3-part Zoom series on Setting Up for Success on Your Land to provide landowners with strategies and resources to be good land stewards and make the most of their property. The series will be lead by Chase Brooke, small acreage program specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. There is no cost to attend the Zoom presentations. The first presentation will be getting started on Your Land Jan. 13, 6-7:30 p.m. The second will be Accessing Information and Resources April 14, 6-7:30 p.m. The third will be Integrating Multiple Uses July 14, 6-7:30 p.m. The series will be capped off with an in-person Land Judging Workshop & Tour Applying What You’ve Learned in Brenham Sept. 18, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. $20 a person.
Democratic Party Gathering
A Democratic Party Neighbors Gathering will be held Friday, Jan. 16, 3-5 p.m., at the Best Western La Grange Inn & Suites Conference Room located at 600 E. St. Hwy 71 Bypass. The local Democratic Party invites you to a 2026 Kick Off event to start the year ahead. Enjoy complimentary light snacks and sparkling refreshments as you mingle with neighbors and find out how you can get involved in upcoming activities and events. Whether you are new to the area or a longtime resident, this is a wonderful chance to get to know your community better. Why not bring a friend or neighbor along with you.
Curbside Bulk Trash Pickup The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan 17, as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items for La Grange Utility customers within the city limits. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/dryers, barbeques, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tree limbs, no lumber/wood, tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bathtubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. Only one set of mattresses per residence will be accepted. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units must be tagged certifying that the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician. Dinner and a Movie
The Casino Arts Association Present Dinner and a Movie showing “Cactus Jack” a western comedy starring Kirk Douglas, Ann Margaret and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The event will be Jan. 17 at the Casino Hall at 254 N. Jefferson in La Grange. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the meal at 6 p.m. The movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 a person. Central Texas Food Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank mobile food pantry will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. This event is drive-thru only.
Blood Drive in Fayetteville
There will be a Blood Drive on the Square in Fayetteville on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 8 a.m. - 12 noon conducted by the Gulf Coast Blood Center and sponsored by the Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus and everyone is invited. Please give the gift of Life, the need is always great especially in the winter when so many aren’t able to give because of colds and flu.
Drive-Thru Fried Chicken & Sausage The La Grange Knights of Columbus will sponsor a drive through only fried chicken and sausage dinner benefitting local charities on Sunday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange, 190 St. Brown St. The meal will include fried chicken, sausage, sauerkraut, green beans and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. The meal is first come, first served.
