Area Lutheran Churches Celebrate Faith, Fellowship and Back to School
St. Paul Lutheran Church The ladies of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby held their annual salad supper on the evening of Aug. 16, inviting neighbors and neighboring churches. The theme of the evening was “Back to School & Back to Good Health.” Pastor John David Nedbalek led the ladies in prayer before all enjoyed a delicious array of salads. The speaker for the event was Dr. Mazie Leftwich, LCSW Emeritus and President of The Wellness Council of Greater Colorado Valley. The title of her presentation was “10 Elements of Faith That Support Good Mental Health.” She emphasized the importance of having faith, hope, and trust in God, along with having a church family, helping others, praying, caring for ourselves, resting on the Sabbath, and how scripture serves as an anchor when we need stability in our lives.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church A “Back to School Teacher Appreciation Breakfast” was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top on the morning of Aug. 17 for the faculty and staff of Round Top-Carmine I.S.D. Pastor John David Nedbalek lead the prayer and the group enjoyed a wonderful breakfast before receiving some fabulous door prizes which were generously donated by individuals and businesses. This breakfast is a traditional annual event sponsored by the four churches of Crossroads Shared Lutheran Ministry: Round Top, Carmine, Shelby, and Waldeck.
St. Cecilia on Henkel Square St. Cecilia in Round Top will be holding a Soul of a Musician Concert Series on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 12:15 p.m. The featured artist will be Patrice Pike. Patrice Pike’s music transforms heartbreak into hope, blending soulful songwriting with folk, Americana, and rock. Former front woman of Austin’s Sister Seven, she has toured with major artists including Dave Matthews and John Fogerty. A co-founder of Step Onward Foundation, Pike continues creating music that inspires compassion, resilience, and connection.
Magnolia City Brass Band
The Magnolia City Brass Band, Houston’s new allprofessional British-style brass ensemble, will bring its powerful and exciting sound to Festival Concert Hall in Round Top on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 3-5 p.m. Under the direction of Houston Symphony Assistant Principal Trumpet Robert Walp, the ensemble features some of the finest brass musicians in the region and delivers performances that inspire audiences of all ages. This concert will feature a variety of great music for brass, by composers such as Claude Debussy, J.S. Bach, John Williams, and more. A lunch option will be available with reservations. Round Top Family Library
Renovation of the main library is coming along nicely, and the transformation is really starting to take shape. The Round Top Family Library team looks forward to welcoming everyone back to enjoy the newly renovated space. An opening date will be announced soon. In the meantime, the entire book collection and Book Sale remain available in the classrooms attached to the Children’s Wing. Patrons can continue to browse and check out books while the renovation is underway.
There’s still time to register your child for fall classes at Round Top Family Library. Classes include chess, taekwondo, art, guitar, ballet, Shakespeare, creative writing, fiber arts, ukulele, sign language and gardening. RTFL is grateful to Arts for Rural Texas for partnering with the library to support creative writing, guitar, ukulele, ballet and art.
Purchase a raffle ticket to support Round Top Family Library’s annual gala and enter for a chance to win one of three prizes. Raffle tickets are available at the library or online through the library’s website. Winning tickets will be drawn during the gala on Sept. 12. Winners do not need to be present.
Round Top Family Library will host a free Security and Self-Defense Seminar on Aug. 29 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. led by instructor David McCall. Participants will learn essential safety tips and techniques covering home security, travel security and self-defense. The self-defense techniques are designed with women in mind but are effective for anyone. Participants must be age 16 or older, and registration is required.
Weekly Storytime for children will resume on Tuesdays once the new side of the library is open this fall. Stay tuned for upcoming details.
Hermann Sons Life
The Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge presented a check to Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Aug. 17. Mary Rauch, from Sons of Hermann, presented the donation to Julie Wantland, church council member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The donation will be used towards the funding of the teacher appreciation breakfast, as well as the programs and activities for the students of RT-C.
Restaurant Weeks in August Local Round Top restaurants continue to offer featured menus, specialty items, and unique dining experiences with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Greater Fayette Community Foundation’s Community Impact Funds during the entire month of August. RT American Legion
On Thursday, Sept. 3, the next meeting of the American Legion Quade-Werchan Post #338 and Auxiliary will be held at their facilities located at 1503 N. St. Hwy. 237 in Round Top beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Prior to the meeting, a social hour and catered meal will be held in honor of the Post’s 104th anniversary and to recognize the students from RT-C High School who attended the 2026 American Legion Auxiliary Texas Bluebonnet Girls State this summer. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with the catered meal served at 5:45 p.m. Reservations are required by Aug. 27 and can be made through an email to Post Adjutant Bruce Bockhorn at bockhorn7402@hotmail.com, or by calling (979) 451-0624. All post and auxiliary members are requested to bring a dessert of their choice to share.
Post members are reminded that their 2027 annual dues of $40 are now due. Upon submitting payment, they will be receiving the membership cards from the Post Adjutant.
Auxiliary members are reminded that their 2027 annual dues of $31 are now due. Members are also requested to bring supplies for the care packages that will be sent to members of our armed forces.
The October meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, in conjunction with Carmine Chamber of Commerce Night Out. All members are encouraged to attend both monthly meetings.
