Chess Club

The La Grange Chess Club meets at the Randolph Recreation Center on Mondays from 5:15-6:15 p.m. The Schulenburg Chess Club meets at the Schulenburg Public Library each Wednesday from 4:455:45 p.m. Free participation is open to ages 5 years to adult. AA Meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are at the Schulenburg Expo Center 1003 Kallus St. The Hope Group meets on Sundays at 8 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m. These are open meetings, all are welcome. Non-alcoholics are welcomed as observers only. For more information go to cbiaa.org or austinaa.org.

Feed The Need

Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.

Flag Disposal

The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The dropoff bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please have them in a plastic bag or a box so that they are not laying on the ground.

American Legion, Auxiliary No. 102

The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 11 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fair Grounds in La Grange. The Post agenda includes the installation of Officers for the 2025-2026 term. Members are encouraged to attend to show their support. New members are always welcome. A light meal will be served, with the regular business meetings to follow.

Herb Society of America

The Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America will be meeting Thursday, June 12 to hear Monika Maeckle, well known for her work with Monarch butterflies. Monika will be talking about her latest book, “Plants with Purpose.” The talk will take place at the Brenham Presbyterian Church at 900 S. Jackson Street in Brenham. There will be coffee and snacks at 9:30 a.m. with the talk beginning at 10 a.m.. Everyone is invited to attend. Find out more at herbsocietypioneer.org.

La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, June 12 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Game Day will be held every second and fourth Thursday of each month. For more information, contact Liz Tannler at (281) 543-1976.

Do Your Duty Club Meeting

The DYD (Do Your Duty) Club will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 12 at 6 p.m. at the Round Top Courthouse. All members are invited to attend.

Sumbera-Mozisek-Kruppa Reunion

The biennial reunion for the descendants of Frances Sumbera Mozisek, John Sumbera, Anton Shumbera, Ludvik Sumbera and Jenovefa Sumbera Kruppa will be held on Sunday, June 22 at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. A catered meal will be provided, although each family is asked to bring a dessert. St. Michael’s Annual Picnic

Join Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church for their annual picnic on Saturday, June 14 in historic downtown Winchester. Enjoy a barbecue meal served by the plate from 5-6:30 p.m. for $15. Plates available to go. Meal includes pork or chicken barbecue, sauce, potato salad, noodles, beans, bread, iced tea and dessert. Beer and soda stand opens at 3 p.m. Washer tournament begins at 4 p.m. Bounce house and arts and crafts for the kids. The live auction begins at 6 p.m. with remaining barbecue sold by the pound at 6:30 p.m. Portion of the proceeds are dedicated to tuition assistance for Lutheran schools. Come to the place where friends meet friends and strangers become friends.

St. James BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the women will hold a bake sale Saturday, June 14, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Boys and Girls Club of Champion Valley.

Summer Piano Concert

The Faison Preservation Society invites you to join them for their annual Summer Concert on Sunday, June 15 from 2-3 p.m. Enjoy a Sunday afternoon of beautiful classical piano music performed by four students attending the Round Top Festival Hill Institute. They will be playing the Faison family Knabe Square Grand Piano at the Historic N. W. Faison House, 822 S. Jefferson St., La Grange. Tickets can be purchased online at faisonhouse. org/events. Cost is $100 per person, benefitting musical appreciation and historic preservation.

Bingo In Ledbetter

Bingo for seniors (60 and older) plus guests will be held at the Ledbetter Community Center on Sunday, June 15 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. $5/card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips/snacks and drinks available for freewill donation.

Ellinger Hermann Sons Life

The Ellinger Hermann Sons Life will be meeting at the Ellinger Fire Station on Monday, June 16 at 6 p.m.

Farm Bureau Family Night

The Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau local will hold their annual family night Tuesday, June 17 at the Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau hall. The social will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by a catered meal. The cost is $10 per person. RSVP at (979) 247-4424 by June 12. All members are welcome.

Farm Bureau Dinner and Meeting

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau dinner and 2025 quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 17, at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Jyl Stavinoha, Fayette Savings Bank Lobby Manager. A business meeting will follow the potluck meal. Members are asked to bring a meat casserole, salad, or a dessert dish.

VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary to Meet

Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet on Tuesday, June 17 in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The VFW Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the Post and Auxiliary will enjoy a meal, after which the Post meets. Potential members are invited to attend.

Annual Crop Tour

The annual Crop Tour is an educational event for anyone who is interested in row crop production. The tour will be held on Thursday, June 19 at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, Room 104, 255 Svoboda Lane in La Grange. Registration is from 8-8:30 a.m. and will conclude about 12 noon followed by a catered lunch. 3 CEU hours will be offered. RSVP to the Fayette County Extension Office at (979) 968-5831 by June 16 to adequately prepare for lunch.

Nuisance Mosquitos

The City of La Grange will be addressing nuisance mosquitos by spraying during the late evening hours (after 9 p.m.) the week of June 23-26, weather dependent, in the city limits of La Grange. The City is asking any homeowners who have bee hives, which would be sensitive to the spray, or any other homeowners that wish not to have their yard sprayed for nuisance mosquitos, to contact La Grange Utilities as soon as possible at (979) 968-3127 to provide their home address and phone number. City crews will spray from the streets only; they will not come into any yards. Although the spray is not harmful to humans or animals, everyone is encouraged to stay indoors while evening spraying occurs.

Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

Marine Corps League Meeting

Al-Anon Meetings in Bastrop

Al-Anon meetings are held every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church located at 1201 Main St. in Bastrop. If you are struggling with a relative or friend who misuses alcohol or any other addiction, Bastrop Al-Anon (Let it Begin with Me) group is here for you. Grief Support Groups

The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support group will be held monthly on the second Tuesday of every month from 10-11 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange. Loss of a Spouse Support Group will be held monthly on the third Tuesday of every month from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office. Loss of a Child support group will be held monthly on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 1011:30 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office.
