Carmine Lions

The Carmine Lions Club will have a guest speaker Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Windmill Ranch Lodge located at 1403 West Hwy. 290 in Carmine. All are invited. The guest speaker is Rev. C.F. KC Shrimp Boil

The 25th annual Fayetteville Ellinger KC Shrimp Boil will be held Friday, May 16 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Pavilion at 207 E. Bell St. in Fayetteville. Happy hour will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with food served at 7:30 p.m. Shrimp and all the fixin’s provided by Cajun Country Cookers. Cost is $40 per person. American Legion Post, Auxiliary No. 102

The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. The Post agenda includes election for officer positions, anticipating maximum participation. Included on the Auxiliary agenda is the presentation of local scholarships and election of officers for the 2025-2026 term. Members are encouraged to attend to show their support, and new members are always invited to attend. A light meal will be served, with the regular business meetings to follow.

LHS Class of 1957 Reunion

A John Williams Celebration Concert

The Festival Concert Hall in Round Top will host a concert celebration, Saturday, May 17, at 3 p.m. presented by the Austin Symphonic Band, Mansfield Wind Symphony, and Sugar Land Winds. Join the Austin Symphonic Band, the Sugar Land Winds and the Mansfield Wind Symphony for a joint concert at Round Top’s Festival Hall. The guest conductor will be Jerry Junkin, Director of Bands at the University of Texas.

Mobile Food Truck in Waldeck

The Central Texas Food Bank mobile food truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 17 from 10-11 a.m. This event is drive through only.

Slavnost Set For May 18

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) in La Grange invites you to a family Sunday funday filled with music, food, laughter, Czech culture and remembrance during the 24th annual Slavnost ‘May Fest’ on May 18. Festivities begin with a recognition ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The Czech Immigrants to Texas will be honored and the stones on the Immigrant Wall will be recognized. A special honor will be given to founder and past president of TCHCC, Retta Slavik Chandler, during the ceremony. A chicken fried chicken dinner will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Plenty of Czech-style desserts will also be available, along with refreshing beverages of all kinds. There will be live music beginning at 11:30 a.m. (after the ceremony) till 4 p.m. on the deck of the main center by the Donnie Wavra & Friends Orchestra. There will be a special performance by the Stříbrňanka Orchestra from the Czech Republic from 1-2:30 p.m.

VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary to Meet On Tuesday, May 20, Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary will meet at 5 p.m. Post and Auxiliary will hear a Loyalty Day program at 6 p.m. followed by a meal, after which the Post will meet. Potential members are invited to attend.

Shelby VFD Fundraiser

The Shelby Volunteer Fire Department will host its 67th annual Fundraiser on Sunday, May 25 at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. A barbecue pork and sausage meal including German potatoes, green beans and barbecue sauce will be served for $15 per plate. This will be a dine-in cafeteria style meal and to go plates beginning at 11 a.m. Barbecue by the pound will be available for $15/lb. Enjoy a free dance by the Blue Denim Band immediately after the auction. Live auction begins at 1 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available. Your generous donations will help support the construction of a new addition and renovation to the fire station to protect and serve our neighbors and community.

Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

Beekeepers Association Meeting

The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will meet on the first Saturday of every month at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange, located at 255 Svoboda Ln. For anyone interested in learning about beekeeping, there will be a Beekeeping 101 Honey Bee Biology presentation from 4:30-5:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow, please bring your favorite entrée, side or dessert to share. Afterwards, there will be a business meeting, an open discussion on bee-things, and a guest presentation. It is also a great opportunity to meet up with experienced beekeepers who can serve as mentors and advisors. Membership dues for 2024 are $25/year, individual or family. Membership is not required to attend meetings, FaycoBeeks welcomes all attendees and encourages beekeepers and their families to join. FaycoBeeks meet the first Saturday of every month.
