The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, April 16, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Lunch is available for $20. Our guest speaker will be Tom Maynard. Tom is the District 10 Representative on the State Board of Education. We are all concerned about students in our public schools. Join to ask questions and learn how to ensure schools focus on the basic skills – reading, writing, math, history, science – and do not expose students to pornography or DEI policies. FB Meeting in April

The Swiss Alp-Ammannsville- Dubina Farm Bureau local will hold their next meeting, Tuesday April 15, at the Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau hall. It will start at 6:30 p.m. A potluck meal is being planned, so each family is asked to bring a covered dish and a small dessert. All members are welcome.

Bake Sale in RT

Round Top Farm & Ranch Supply will be hosting a bake sale offering Easter goodies at their store located at 2121 Hwy. 237 North in Round Top. The bake sale will be held Thursday, April 17 from 8 a.m. until all goods are gone. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the following community organizations: CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Fayette County Child Welfare Board and their Rainbow Room. Each of these organizations works closely with county Child Protective Services (CPS) to advocate and assist with the needs of children who are in CPS custody. Stop by and pick up goodies for your Easter weekend while supporting your local community. There’s more Join the staff of Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites on Thursday, April 17 at noon, as they share the history of German-Texan schützenvereine, or marksmanship clubs for a Winedale Zoom Talk: Brass Bands & Bullseyes: German-Texans and their Schuetzenverein Traditions. These clubs became community centers for German immigrants and their neighbors to compete in target shooting, celebrate holidays, dance to German music, and gather as a community. Staff will highlight the history of the Bluff Schuetzenverein which once made its home on the grounds of present-day Monument Hill and inspired the sites’ annual Bluff SchuetzenFest in May. Free Program at Library

The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour with a free program on Thursday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the library meeting room, 855 S. Jefferson Street, La Grange. Noted scholar on the Marquis de Lafayette, Allan Hoffman, is once again traveling from New Hampshire to speak on the life and contributions of Fayette County’s namesake often referred to as the French hero of the American Revolution. Barbecue Pork Dinner April 17

The La Grange Baseball Association 18th annual drive-thru only fundraiser dinner will be held Thursday, April 17 at the La Grange KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown Street from 4:30-6 p.m. Barbecue pork dinner with german potatoes, pinto beans, and slaw will be $15/plate. Proceeds to benefit the restoration of the ball park at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at La Grange Farm and Ranch, Round Top State Bank, Knights of Columbus Insurance, and La Grange Chevron.

Christ in the Passover

On Maundy Thursday, April 17 at 6 p.m. New Life Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden St., La Grange, will host “Christ in the Passover” a powerful, interactive experience that will illustrate the link between the Jewish Feast of Passover seder meal and the last supper Jesus shared with His disciples. Led by Sam Rood, a missionary from Jews for Jesus, we will taste the traditional symbolic foods as he weaves the story of the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt and freedom from slavery together with the messianic hope realized in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Jewish or not, religious or not all are welcome for this unforgettable, thought-provoking experience. Additionally, a Good Friday service will be held April 17 at 6 p.m. and two Easter services on April 20 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. all in the fellowship hall while the sanctuary undergoes renovations.

Good Friday Service

The Schulenburg Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a Community Good Friday Service at the historic Stephen’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Schulenburg, on April 18 at 12 noon. The church is located at the corner of College and Wolters. There will be a fellowship meal under the tents afterwards. Christians of all denominations and all seekers of truth are welcome to this annual gathering.

Good Friday Garbage Schedule La Grange City offices will be closed Friday, April 18 in observance of Good Friday.Waste Management will be working their normal garbage and recycling schedule. If you need additional information, please call (979) 968-3127 Curb Side Bulk Trash Pickup The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, April 19 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items. Items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will start at 7 a.m. Saturday morning for La Grange Utility customers within city limits. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/dryers, barbeques, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/ bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. The city will have roll off containers available to residential utility customers for hard to dispose of items at the City Service Center at 1040 E. Eblin St. inside the yard. Customers will have to show their utility bill. Containers will be available April 2124, from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and on April 25 and April 26, from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. No tires, batteries, construction debris, paint or chemicals will be accepted. Only one set of mattresses per utility bill will be accepted.
